Lewis Black Rags on the State of Education and the Rise of ChatGPT University | The Daily Show
Students and teachers alike are outsourcing all their work to AI, but Lewis Black thinks kids should stop experimenting with AI in college and go back to experimenting with fun things, like LSD. #DailyShow #LewisBlack #ChatGPT

In 20 years from now, a person needs an emergency surgery and the main doctor who’s performing the surgery says ehh I just used gpt for all my classes, the doctor shrugs his shoulders and you pass out from hearing that and when you wake up you’re on the operating table half cut open, you see the doctors in the distance freaking out pacing back and fourth watching a how to do your kind of surgery video on YouTube, so you sit upright and start screaming in pain and the drs look your way and start freaking out, screaming and run out the room

The previous way to read off graduates was to have the students write their name on a piece of paper and hand it to a complete stranger, who would then grossly mispronounce their name, ruining a major moment in their lives. The QR code saves a tree and allows students to ensure their names will be announced correctly in advance.

First we have to admit colleges are for profit, not for learning anymore. If you wanna learn something, F college get AI to help you get a job.

About 9 months ago, I took to chatgpt with the simple goal of having it write the most graphic filth possible because boredom.
My initial goal, a consensual foursome was not permissible, but further experimentation revealed that much worse could be justified as social commentary.
Some of that commentary included an 18 year old getting spit roasted by 4 corrupt lawyers as an alternative to jail, and a maid reflecting on her corrupt and lustful owners while having her colon cleaned.
I eventually got my four way, with graphic descriptions abounding.
Having reached this pinnacle, I got bored and moved on to other things.
When I came back, it realized what it was doing and refused to do more.
The funniest part, and what got me going in the first place, is that the program wouldn't make an image with centaurs and unicorns grazing in a mountain pasture because eating is a body function.

I put one of my essays into an AI detector and it came back as something like 60% chance it was written by AI. I went to University pre-AI…

I just spoke to a lady who is in school for nursing, she admitted to me with a chuckle that she uses AI to do her assignments. I said "that's horrifying" straight faced. She did not seem to see the problem with it.

You want to prove today's students are writing their own essays, reports and thesis? Just look for "bro" a few times. Or "u" or "gr8" or instead of reading "reached a fair and prosperous agreement" we read "the deal was skibidi or everyone."

You know who never blames themselves for any of the problems in education?
Teachers.
The quality and professionalism of current teachers is a HUGE part of the problem.

I've caught students using AI for papers and exams… but I never accuse them outright. I tell them it was flagged, that the system is imperfect, and if they want to talk about it further to contact me directly. I wait 48 hours before posting the grade to give them time to reach out.
That said, every single one (so far) has admitted to cutting and pasting from ChatGPT.

20 years ago, I was in graduate school and I had an assignment that was the second most difficult assignment I ever completed in school. The assignment was called a précis, of which I had to complete three of these for a graduate level course I was taking. This is where a student takes a written work, either from a chapter in a book or peer reviewed research article, and reduces it to about 25% of its original length without quoting the source directly or interjecting any of their own opinions on the original written work. This assignment was so difficult and stressful, it drove me to the limits of my sanity, but after a great deal of time and effort, I was able to complete it.
In 2025, it would be so easy for any student, regardless of educational experience or intelligence to upload a written document into Chat GPT and not only could it quickly produce a précis of the article according to specific parameters, it could also take the same original article and write it several different ways using different words and phrases to avoid plagiarism detection using modern software instructors use when grading and evaluating a student’s work. While this is an amazing development in computer technology, it also means students no longer have to exercise their minds to read, process and condense written information, which is an important skill graduate students must learn before doing their master’s thesis or project to get a master’s degree.

Im used to using AI by now. While I’m sad I may never get a programming job I’ve always wanted it has helped me in troubleshooting at my repair jobs. Plus it has helped my in my independent coding projects.
Most Teachers and Professors are useless nowadays. They don’t actually teach you the material they’re activists promoting non traditional values while collecting a paycheck.
And sadly colleges are worthless. Tech school are far superior. Sadly most employers won’t recognize tech school certificates because they’re not “college degrees”. Hopefully that will change soon.
