Let’s Hang Out & Watch Videos from the 80s — Livestream #27

My So-Called Gen X Life | May 3, 2026

Tonight, we are watching old videos from the 80s. I found some TV network promos and celebrations that are filled with stars from our childhood.

Wow, about the prison story – the justice system in the US is insane!! (It's also pretty bad in my country but in different ways)
I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and it's so unfair and unreasonable that workplaces won't hire someone because they were convicted of something that is actually perfectly legal today.
Anyway, I hope your channel continues to thrive, your content is great and truly a great source of comfort. I think many of us can relate to the need to go back to simpler, more hopeful days. With better music (objectively the music was better)

Sorry you went through what you went through. I really hate that people who are involved with drugs often get higher sentences than murderers. I am against anyone involved with marijuana even going to jail and even harder drugs I consider it more of a mental illness. I'm a drug and mental health counselor and hate how addicts are treated. Not saying you were an addict, just saying in general. The whole men in their 40s and 50s dating much younger is actually not true. but is often pushed as a way to demean women. In fact, studies show most people marry within 5 years of their age if I recall. Yes many men in their 40s and above want younger but honestly why would a woman in her 20s want a man old enough to be her father, especially if she can support herself? It's not logical in most cases. These men often claim to want kids but if they wanted them they would have found women younger. I have known many of these men and almost all end up alone. Meanwhile I am 54 and still get hit on by men of all ages. Like you, not sure whether I want to do the whole dating again due to how many jerks are out there but I always say never say never.

There was an earlier version of Name That Tune. Tom Kennedy was the host. They also had a singer named Kathie Lee Johnson. She later married Frank Gifford.

It was fun to join the stream. Here's how I'd build the Gen X/Xennial "retirement" community in a vacant mall:

Food court would be Sabarro's Pizza, Orange Julius, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, Wendy's, etc
Encouraged dress code: acid washed jeans, bright leggings/tights, babydoll dresses, halter tops, ripped jeans, Doc Martens, Big Johnson, Co-Ed Naked shirts, etc (many schools banned those shirts because of sexual innuendo)
Thursday nights would be Throwback TV nights: Cosby Show/Family Ties/Cheers/Seinfeld/Friends, etc
Friday night skating or cosmic bowling
Parking lots full of T Top IROC Z Camaros/Firebirds, giant station wagons, "dustbuster" minivans (Pontiac Transport/Oldsmobile Silhouette), Dodge Neons, Geo Prizms

    Plus much more!

I knew you would like the Selena performance. A few years ago I watched every Selena video I could find. Another fun one is "Selena Quintanilla explains Mexican American Music".

girl, you were born to be famous.. you are a natural; I've seen your reporting for news channel's. At a soul level, we chose our parents and our life lessons, before we come here. Idk how spiritual you are, but I was born on 7/7/78 in Saint Joseph, MO., and I see your bright aura, but you do have a block.. and, I think it's in your root chakra., and it's a lesson you've repeated over several lifetimes. That's all I've got.. call me Ordamae from Ghost lmao

Thank you for producing your channel! It's as comforting as coming home from school in 3rd grade, letting myself in via the key in the fake rock, which was right next to the front door. Followed by throwing a bag of ACT II Popcorn in the microwave, and watching Heathcliffe xoxoxoxoxo

VH1 I Love The 80's was good! Too bad the network would forever change it's format not long after. There I love the 80s CD was interesting! Hard to fit an entire decade of hits on one disc which is what they tried to do LOL!
