He is a very underrated song writer. A fact I only recently learned was that his song 'Moon Lighting ' was co witan by Francis Anthony Farrell who was an original member of Supertramp

Thank you for your review, I had endless flight gr at album, and as I started I started DJing in 1980 I played a lot of his smooch fodder at the end of various gigs.

Have seen Leo Sayer twice live , once in 70’s once a few years ago ( part of the stage crew ) met him backstage , lovely bloke , has an amazing vocal range / skill , a real writing talent , not sure if he’s really a classic rock icon though . I have Endless Flight ( his best track in my opinion ) album and early singles so won’t be buying CD set , very very underrated vocalist and composer , long live Leo xx

My mum's favourite singer…I have to admit he's got some great songs and he's great in interviews. He doesn't mind sending himself up a bit . Good guy .

It does not include the Don’t Wait Until Tomorrow (studio version) apparently because of contractual issues, but the live album makes up for that gap. We got the original version here in Australia where it was recorded and it’s excellent. A great reworking of many great songs.

Saw Leo earlier this year, still going strong, voice is still pretty darn good, great stage banter. He can do a pretty good rock voice and a great blues voice when he wants to.

Nothing wrong with a bit of Leo Sayer – like him or find him a bit lightweight, he wrote some fantastic songs.

He had a great hard rock voice when he wanted to, and loads of brilliant pop-rock songs. In "Long Tall Glasses", he does a great Dylan impersonation, "How Much Love" is one of the best pop songs ever and "More Than I Can Say" is a fantastic cover. I'm going to check out his early albums after watching this, cheers Barry!

Fair play to you Barry for reviewing most kinds of music but to me Leo Sayer with the Brian May barnet was a figure of ridicule especially when he buggered off to Oz complaining nobody in the UK took him seriously!! No wonder as he was as relevant as Father Abraham & The Smurfs & just as bad 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry Leo fans 🙃!!

Lost a lot of respect for Leo and Richard Perry when they recorded You Make Me Feel Like Dancing which was actually written by Ray Parker Jr. He was noodling in the studio Perry heard it got an arrangement and then told Parker he would be credited. Album comes out and you guessed it, no mention of Ray as songwriter. When the song wins a grammy Ray said he considered suicide. Music is a dirty business and the fact that Leo has NEVER mentioned this in countless videos is disgraceful. There are videos online where Ray talks in depth about the theft.

Leo Sayer was a pop icon in his adopted country of Australia. He was a constant on Australian radio and charts from 1973 until 1983. His first 6 albums are loaded with excellent pop songs.

Northern Songs is not previously unreleased. I bought it in 2022 after seeing Leo at Bury St Edmunds, and yes, he’d come over from Australia for the U.K. tour.

Leo is one of those artists who found huge commercial success, but it's NOT aged well, the clown get up is naff today,but his kind of mime imagery at the time seemed to make him stand out as an all round entertainer.
Unfortunately his melodic and at times catchy songs were great at the time,now they sound rather dated,as is Leo when you watch old video of his performances, naff comes to mind unfortunately, this kinda arty acting & mime while singing looks so naff, I'm sure many thought it was naff back then…. LoL
I'm surprised a label has went to the trouble of doing this box set, who is it for?
I certainly DON'T think Leo is going to gain many new fans with it,as the music could be viewed as twee, safe, middle of the road, and ultimately dated.
Those old fans, I'm sure don't want the newer unknown albums, but will appreciate the original 4 albums from that time.
People who were huge fans back then,are probably embarrassed to admit that that today, which is a shame,as Leo was a talented dude, but he's totally fell off the face of the earth for years, so is totally unknown to those under 30, I'd be interested to know how this sells….as he's NOT an obvious choice for a career long box set!!

ha, my mum likes Leo too, i actually love moonlighting, its a very clever song with a story, and those sort of songs made an impact on me as a kid, shooting star by bad company was another, just brings back memories of me in bed listening to 70s radio, trying to keep from waking up my brother and not wanting my parents to catch me, lol .

Title 'Leothology' sounds like a compound of the words Lethargy and Leprosy.
None the less Sayer was a talented musician and song writer whos final product was just lethargic, total waiting room pop music of that era, but there is no proof of it causing leprosy.

"I was just a boy". 🙂 Thanks for reminding us of this great singer/songwriter! "Silverbird" is one of the best (debut) albums of the 70s. When he went 'disco' and harmless radio pop later on, I couldn't follow him, but the sold millions of singles and albums around the world.
@drmusic3641
August 24, 2026 at 3:17 am
His album from Silverbird to Here are all wonderful, it's with Living In A fantasy was where he lost his way and
World Radio and Have You Ever Been In Love are basically different versions of the same album. Restless Years is very good,
while Northern Songs is simply awful which is strange because his early version of Let It Be from All This and WWII was an excellent cover.
1992 was recorded during that year but wasnt released until last year. Ive never seen that last album however.
I had bought the CD's as two-fers on Edsel a few years ago, so these are the same mastering as those are.

Leo lives with his wife in the gorgeous Southern Highlands south west of Sydney. Within the last 12 months he and his wife appeared on an Australian lifestyle TV program showcasing their beautiful garden. I've seen Leo twice at the Sydney Opera House wearing black leather for shows by Ray Charles and Brian Wilson, if I remember correctly.

Sayer is a naturalised Australian and lives in the southern highlands south of Sydney.
@mrhats-themusicchap
August 24, 2026 at 3:17 am
"northern songs" was a self produced Beatles covers songs released around 2020,
"1992" those tracks were recorded around 1992 when Leo was out of contract and had no label, it was officially released in 2024 on LP/CD.
"return to paradise" is a collection of previously unreleased material and is only available on physical format as a part of this box set, otherwise it can be streamed on the usual platforms.
PS: you keep mentioning "just a boy" as a song, that was part of a line from the song "giving it all away".

This is my vintage, I remember getting Just a Boy for Christmas, didn’t keep up with Leo after that bit that album is part my childhood, good songs if I remember 👍
