3:33 This is actually very easily explained by paying attention to the movie. It shows that the point where the Trex came out from is distinct from the point where they fell down and had no such drop off.

In the scene where the T-Rex almost catches the Jeep, its almost like they showed it's a manual, and Jeff Goldblum was scared and leaned against the shifter, keeping "clever girl" guy from being able to shift… so they couldn't accelerate properly… whoops! Whoopsie!!!

Unusually Ryan misses a few things here;
T rex enclosure: the vertical drop is on one side of the enclosure. The trex simply got out by breaking through the fence on the other side and accessing mother areas of the park that way.
Climbing the fence: the gaps were clearly too small for anyone to fit through, clearly seen when Alan tries to fit his head through one of the gaps. Climbing over was the only option.
Trex and the car- the trex only keeps pace with the car initially as malcolm's body accidentally knocks the gearstick into a lower gear. When he gets off and Muldoon puts it back into a higher gear, they outpace the Trex very quickly.
Still top stuff as always though!
