Years ago, I actually worked with a lady from Pittsburgh who dated one of Fred Rogers' sons in high school and knew Mr. Rogers well. Apparently, he was just the same in real life as he was on his show. He wasn't gay, just a very soft-spoken Presbyterian minister. And McFeely was Mr. Rogers' mother's maiden name and his own middle name.

Nooooooo! Fred Rodgers is the salt of the earth. I can assure you in 1978-80 when I was watching that show I had no idea what "gay" was…even Liberace just seemed like a fancy showman 😂😂😂

In all the years I have watched this movie, this was the first year where I realized he sold mattresses. The year I had my realization, boom, this video says it within the first 3 seconds! I watched this movie at the theater when it first came out. It’s my husband’s favorite Christmas movie so we probably watch it at lest five times a year. Never noticed before!

I think it's funny you talk about a movie with Rita Wilson, then about Mr. Rogers. When Rita Wilson's husband played Mr. Roger's in the biopic.
And it was Mr. McFeely who was the mailman.

I actually know one of the workers in the toy store scene he doesn't talk and he's only on screen for a bit. He's a family friend who did happen to be in the film.
