I first saw Jerry Lee at the Birmingham Odeon in February 1977.Pocket money compilations on the Pickwick label were my gateway into his musical catalogue. Rock’n’Roll,Country,Blues and even Gospel would run side by side throughout his recording career. I recall some of the Teddy Boys getting impatient when Jerry strung too many slow Country songs together and at the Wembley Country festivals would play more straight down the line Rock’n’Roll, with die-hard Country fans walking out as Jerry took to the stage. Manchester Apollo in 1980 & Wembley Country Festival in 1982 were my great gigs Jerry Lee cut some great Country music hits in the U.S from ‘68-‘81. I recommend the Rhino compilation ‘All Killer No Filler’ for those wishing to sample his artistry.

Really one of the greats…..wish he had been able to tour more….I would have loved to have seen him. I saw Little Richard quite a few years before he passed. It was a helluva show and the man's voice was still incredible. The show rocked……

R.I.P The Killer. An innovator in the music world, his style of playing piano was unique. The album Live at the Star Club Hamburg is one of the greatest live performances ever!

Jerry Lee Lewis was a giant. And, those who followed were lucky enough to stand on his shoulders. When I was a kid, he was one of those 1950's trailblazers who taught me what rock'n'roll is. His live album in Star Club Hamburg remains as the greatest live documentation of the exhilarating power of rock'n'roll in history. It is beyond-words-amazing. Jerry's passing means an end of an era. In memoriam.

Fun fact.Lemmy,s hero was Little Richard if you read his biography.Jerry Lee and Richard were the "punk" if you will of their time.Pure and magic.Thank you for this video.Without those guys who knows where rock n roll bands would have ever existed.

One of Jerry's major piano influences was Moon Mullican. To hear perfect examples, look up some of Moon's 50s records, "Good Deal Lucille", "Rheumatism Boogie", or "I Done It". His first hit was "I'll Sail My Ship Alone" in 1948. That 78's flipside was "Moon's Tune", and you can hear where Jerry probably first perked his ears to Moon.

A true rock legend. And to the critics who dismiss him outright due to bad behavior, if I had a dime for every musician who behaved badly, immorally or even illegally, I’d have enough money to buy Jerry’s entire catalogue.

The energy and excitement of Jerry Lee and Little Richard was phenomenal. Whole Lot of Shakin' Goin' On is one of the best records ever cut, capturing that wild feral thrill of rock and roll. Wherever Jerry is now – there'll be a whole lot of shakin' goin' on. Thanks for this one Barry.

'Sad passing? Really ? I mean he is not an artist I would think of in sentimental terms. I would praise him for a certain kind of consistency, for producing albums so late into his career that as recently as the 2010s he had top US thirty album, and as far as I know still has one album recorded and produced by T Bone Burnett that is as yet unreleased…
