Just found this one.Great interview.I think their best all round album was Clear Spot which covers all aspects of the band Blues, Soul,Poetry along with the Fab Sculptured Stuff plus a great Production .Big Eyed Beans From Venus should have been a massive hit although I still think that sleeve cover was a mistake.

Newbee here, great interview. I searched Captain Beefheart and arrived here. Top notch anecdotes on that whole TMR recording, Zappa stories and more. Loved the tribute to the late great John Peel.

An interesting interview as I haven't specifically ever heard him interviewed. As I listen to more and more of the band members stories I am starting to for a coherent picture of the evolution and general sense of Don and his mind.

So there you have it, straight from the horse´s mouth – for all those who rave how Zappa produced the Trout Mask: " He set the volumes, and then he nodded in the control room.." so much for those deluded Frank´s fans.. And yes, confirmed again here – it only took 6 and half hours to record the album, most of in one take. Absolutely hilarious.
Just recently I listened to Jeff´s isolated tracks from TMR – and my admiration for him rose immensely. Not dissing Bill H.,
but it was Jeff who carried most of the brunt, and laid the meat. His departure was the greatest loss for Magic Band.

Great (and very valuable) interview., given that sources of information on the creation of TMR are rapidly disappearing. Added bonus being that Jeff seems a very nice guy.

Jeff Cotton seems so in tune with himself and the universe around him, in namely that he understand that there is no difference. Very spiritually awaken sounding, or at least many glimpses of that truth. Thanks for the inspiration Jeff Cotton💜
