Clash of the Titans tour stop in Dallas, July 3, 1988. That was my first time seeing Metallica live. This was after Garage Days, and just before Justice was released. They debuted Harvester of Sorrow (the only new song played) and we were blown away.
Jason was the new god! His presence and energy, the excitement he exuded, everything about him punched me in the face. Metallica was, is, and always will be Jason.
It's great to see him kicking ass.
Too bad Chophouse is not stopping in Texas this go round. Someday, perhaps. And maybe Newsted will tour and hit this shitty state one day, too. One can hope.

Jason's authenticity is infectious. I'm so glad all the garbage of the music industry never went to his head. So happy he's healthy and kicking ass again.

As a bassist, Jason was my idol growing up. I was able to meet him at Ozzfest in 2003, when he was playing with both Ozzy & Zakk, and also Voivod. I was shaking as I got to shake his hand, he politely signed my ticket, which I still have. Truly one of a kind, he couldn't have been nicer and more humble.

Newstead was awsome , RIP Cliff,….Trujillo your cool too but your not Tallica like they were sorry. Coming home from school with a borrowed lp of And Justice from a metalhead from art class changed my whole perception of music,.. sitting there looking at those profile pics thinking wow what the fuck is this shit? 32:00 It makes me wonder if at the beginning of Metallica's career James relied on Mustaine the same way Jason described the band relying on Cliff here… and if that's the reason why Mustaine had a stronger connection with Cliff than with James and Lars after he was fired…
Be that as it may, even though Cliff and Dave were a couple of years older than James and Lars, they were all teenagers when they started, that's a lot of responsibility for a teen to carry on its back, it's unfair…
The same responsibility Jason had to carry after Cliff's tragedy except he had very limited saying in the creative process… it feels as if he was practically that family member trying to keep the family on track but rarely acknowledged inside of said family. At the end, it's cool that Jason came out of it stronger and fulfilled.

2 things I want to see Jason do: 1. a trip hop project with Devin Townsend (he and Jason are both big fans of Massive Attack) 2. Videos doing playthroughs and breakdowns of his Justice for All bass parts (and any other parts he'd like to share). People will never stop talking about his bass being turned down on that record, may as well earn some youtube revenue through it

The first time I saw Metallica was on the Damaged Justice tour in April 1989! The whole band was on fire! Jason blew me away with his bass playing and vocals! He will always be my favorite 🤘🤘🤘🤘☺️☺️🔥

i saw Metallica in 93 in Melbourne, i was 14 yrs old. When they came out on stage Jason was wearing the same Sad but True t-shirt as me. Great memories.

You think about the way the band just sprinted through the time following Burton's death and the way they just ignored grieving, it becomes painfully obvious that even though he became their whipping boy in many ways, Newsted was also their glue. If he doesn't join Metallica, I don't think you'd have Metallica beyond the 80s. I truly hope he feels as fulfilled and happy with life as he portrays.
Cliff was a genius and a legend, without a doubt, but the Newsted era… that's MY Metallica.
