Jan Levinson: The Office’s Most Misunderstood Villain

As one of those people who's watched the office 20 times, the older I got the more I felt that the writers made Jan a little too cartoonishly crazy. Your video is a good explanation of her arc, but I still feel like the writers gave her too few redeeming qualities.

Great insight! I always thought Jan should have replaced Michael when he left the show.

There were lots of good episodes after he left, but I thought they made a mistake with using Andy to replace him, and spent too much time on Dwight and his farm.

Jan would have been great.

Its a theory, but i think that song Hunter made really cements that Jan had hooked up with her 17 yr old assistant.

And Andy, he didnt back track after learned his "gf" was actually a minor.

One thing i always laugh at is how Jan literally DIVORCED her husband because he didn’t change his mind about children. Jan wanted children bad enough in her marriage to move on from Gould. But when she was with Michael SHE ended up being the one changing her mind about his vasectomies.

We also don’t know what Jan went through in her previous relationship. What trauma could’ve been caused from that. I’m not justifying her actions.

22:41–22:45 no offense by any means but idk, the way jan hesitates to finish saying "staying beside" makes it seem very much so that she isn't wanting to be with him, i get it could be because Michael was having a hard time but still.

Seeing a bunch of people in the comments defending Jan and saying Michael was the one to break her is crazy 😂 This video literally explains why Jan turned out how she did. Also, why is everyone ignoring the fact that she is basically a rapist to Michael and even a predator to Hunter and Clark 🤨

Jan never deserved Michael

I haven’t watched the Office in a while but this video made me realize I spent a very long time in a Michael-Jan relationship….as the Michael. It’s actually kind of funny now that I think about it in this light. Woof. But also lol.

3:59 Michael led the client to say it’s terrible then tells Jan to keep quiet. The client was internally selling himself. Brilliant.

One thing that I just thought about for the first time ever: Michael most likely paid for Jan's sperm donation. She did it while they were still dating and she didn't have a job and was already blowing his money on stuff.
OR if she lied about the sperm donation that either means Michael or possibly Hunter was the father. And I would not put it past Jan to hide it, especially from Michael. I'm curious now if the writers ever thought about it when they were writing those episodes

One thing I have always wondered is what actually happened with Jan’s divorce. We only ever heard her side of the story and based on the “SNIP SNAP SNIP SNAP” she is very inconsistent on the thing she claims to be the reason for her divorce. All I’m saying is that her ex husband dodged a nuke and I very much doubt he was the problem.

27:10 let’s be clear — that’s not a plasma TV. They were a status symbol in the 2000s and big and heavy and the first flat screens most people owned. Whereas Michael bought an LCD years later that wasn’t just smaller, but 4:3. He wouldn’t know the difference of course. And Jan wouldn’t care naturally. But the casual viewer like me was, like “omg this guy’s serious” and I think this was the moment I got hooked and watched loads more clips, eventually bingeing it all 😅
