I made the mistake of after have a few too many Heinekens of try to play 'Sad But True' at concert volume on my expensive mini monitors. Now I've gotta replace the crossovers. 😢 I thought the Black album was terrific. Justin, you're my new favorite thing you YouTube.

Not to mention the lyrics which are also great. Especially the variation on the last chorus: "…I'm inside, open your eyes (bom bom bom bom), I'm you!!!… sad but true."

Sad but True rules. Face melting, killer riffs. It's what heavy metal should be as far as I'm concerned, slow and heavy. You can have the blur of the fast tempo noise.

Had a friend point out to me, back when the black album had been released, something I did not realize. He asked me did I like the "And Justice For All" album. I answered, HELL YES. He then asked, you don't think it sounds a bit unfinished. I said, unfinished, what do you mean? It's awesome and epic. He said, you cannot hear the bass on any song whatsoever. I looked at him like he was crazy. I then told him he was crazy. Lastly, I said, you don't know what you're talking about. After he pointed that out when I listen to that album on the original cassette I bought back then I can't hear any bass. He was right. He just laughed as I did my best apology attempt the next day. Now I can't fool myself into hearing that album the way I did before I knew there was no bass……….

Yes i agree ive started looking at some other areas of Metal since recently getting more into Metallica however they not really the first mainstream metal band could you not say that Iron Maiden and even the likes of Motörhead brought metal to the mainstream?

I think the song “One” on their previous album at least gave Hetfield a taste of commercial success. I do remember when the black album came out I disliked it because it was slow. Being 16 then and full of vigor I loved their speed. Of course now I love the album. I think Lars was at his best in that album.
To be honest, after that album, it all kinda went away for them.
Now they keep trying do this reinventing shit. They’ve essentially ended up being a hardrock band. Stay true to what Metallica was would have been an option. But this will never happen again. I just enjoy their old albums and maybe one or two new songs.
But the Hetfield aggression is unmatched, loved by many including me and those kinda megalomaniac SOBs just make great frontmen.
Let’s also not forget back then when the black album came out concert after concert was being sold out by a band called Guns ‘N Roses! November Rain came out in the same year. GNR, even ever so shortly was the absolute biggest thing! This had to have had put pressure on Metallica.
And if you look at what Slash is doing now…

Justin can you tell me why I have tried and ultimately failed with Metallica. I find their songs drawn out and soulless. I like 'One' and 'Harvest of Sorrow' but after that I never find myself going back to them. And their new stuff, tired and dull.

I remember meeting Lawn Mower death at Way Ahead records in Nottingham, am sure they signed my vinyl which I think had some band with a duck in on the B side though I may have dreamed that bit. Love these videos really takes me back to those days of endless possibility intermixed with periods of hopelessness, youth truly is wasted on the young(well me anyway).
