Is This Avril Lavigne & Yungblud Song A Complete Mess?!

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | December 21, 2025

The two pop punk favourites of current music have come together to create this song “I’m a Mess”. Yes, it is indeed beloved Avril Lavigne and the rather marmite-received Yungblud. Is this any good or is it a complete mess? Can it stand up against some of the great rock duets across time, like Bryan Adams & Tina Turner? Tell me what you think of it in the comments and also what your favourite duet is!

Justin, one of your biggest talents is being able to make an 18 minute video where you are open-minded and diplomatic about a song that I’d make a 15 second video calling absolute trash lol

If this song came out today I’d literally think it was AI generated. That is how lifeless and processed the vocals sound, here. Why are artists and producers so absolutely terrified to let a little bit of humanity shine through in modern music? I don’t understand it. Would this have really shipped fewer units, gotten fewer streams if the vocals and instruments were allowed to sound even a tad bit organic?

He rode on Ozzie. Now with Avril. 🤷‍♂️ who was probably told it was good money. When Ozzie made 🎶 it was music. Lemmy was just a legend. These kids aren't close.

Youngblud with his wardrobe people and hairdresser, we all cut and dyed our own here when we were younger, 100% pop music, which to my ears Is horrible

I do like your videos of this style but it would make more sense to listen to the full song or majority parts not just a couple seconds of bits, proper got to me when its one of my fave songs 🙂 but yeah its a phenomenal song

People try hard to be so mature and so intellectual with their opinions altough just old and bitter. Lost in time, can't keep up with the present times. Sad that there's always something has to be wrong with something or somebody

I think that if I ever had a conversation with Sydney Youngblood, I'd be covered in spit afterwards. If only I could…..find a towel. PS Sorry Sydney Youngblood, I meant the letter O less Youngblood

Eh Justin ! There's some dollars in them racks behind you , I have an outboard/ hardware studio so know how much these things cost especially some of them SSL / Neve & Api type of brands and iv a lot of Dave Smith/ Sequential synths which add up when you start getting 5 or 6 of em anyway nice gear is my point lol

I love that your hiphop knowledge stems as far as Tribe Called Quest & Dela Soul and then Snap !!!! SNAP FFS …. Oh dear 😅😂🤣 Still your musical knowledge overall is pretty shit hot and you have an amazing ability to disect a song into its constituent parts and make connections to other songs ,, I also do that and amaze my girlfriend doing it cos she doesn't understand how I can break songs down into its parts and even as far as what synth or outboard gear has been used to create said parts ,, I thought only I did it but maybe its a muso/ producer thing cos you do it' also but way beyond my ability

people gotta come to terms with the fact that pop-punk is pop. it's hard sometimes. even I feel the instinct to rage against it not being punk (enough). but it's not just punk. that's just it.

Anyone who insists on autuning Yungbud so much he loses his unique sound is an idiot! He can sing & has a brilliant raspy sound, yet this song makes his voice completely anodyne. It removes all the character & charm.

His USP is being a psychologically inadequate crybaby, championing mental illness as a fashion accessory & looking like he’s having an allergic reaction to a bee sting, He’s a nauseating exemplar of the sewage being spewed out by the ‘culture’ machine.
