I know what you mean about his music. He seems to have strong wordplay (most of the time) and a real ear for melody, so I wish the songs were a bit more polished and unique. But they're also very fun. Maybe someday he will put money into an album production, but like others have said, that doesn't seem to be his focus.

with danny, you can tell almost all of his songs are either his annual spooky songs or based off of videos. they're usually made from the topic of the video, if the person he was watching was in a different type of situation, and how that would go. i agree, that he has potential, but his music isn't supposed to be grammy winning. it's supposed to be something people can laugh at.

I don't think any of the points made in this video still stand today. Help Let Me Go, My Dad is Rich, Yummy, and the Ned Flames song Circus all came out after this video was made and they are all extremely good production wise, lyricism wise, overall sound wise, etc.
This may be just a personal thing, but at this point in time as a fan of both Danny Gonzalez' and Tiny Meat Gang's music, I'm far more impressed with Danny overall. A good example of what I'm talking about is My Dad is Rich; Danny's rapping in it is impeccable, the lyrics are extremely clever, and the beat is also really catchy and clean.
I guess in a way you were right because I believe Danny did start working with outside producers and that could have contributed to his music improving over the years, but I also think you were wrong about the balance between the musicality and comedy in Danny's music. I would say that Danny's new music is just as funny as his old music (again, see My Dad is Rich), the only thing that changed was the quality. On all accounts right now I think he's vastly better than Tiny Meat Gang, it really sucks he's not getting the recognition he deserves.

I think the main difference is Danny doesn’t actually want to be a fuck boy or a serious “steal your girl” rapper, his songs are a bit more poppy and light-hearted and I think a lot of people enjoy the strange, goofy topics with funny lyrics. I like TMG with their production (which as you admit they don’t even do themselves) and they do have clever lyrics but I hate their weird tug-of-war between acting and singing like aforementioned “steal your girl” rappers but also kind of being silly and making fun of said rappers, it’s like they want to be taken seriously but are too afraid to commit to that so it’s hard to tell if it’s parody or mild comedy or what. I couldn’t imagine Danny actually taking himself as seriously as particularly Noel does and I’m grateful Danny doesn’t live in LA because I don’t want him to be like TMG, he has room to grow like anyone else but for going it alone his stuff is really fantastic and unique

You can't put him in the same category with other music in the "industry". He's not trying to be in any industry or be a real musician cause he would do that if he wanted to he's good enough. He's clearly just messing around trying to be funny and succeeding. You can't critic his music like he's trying to be a real musician and failing. That's like taking an arcade craniac YouTube video and critiquing it like an actual Hollywood movie. It's not meant to "good" by the standards you're holding it up to. It's meant to be ridiculous and funny.

I think he recently said he's studying music production, but I don't think he plans on dropping the goofiness. He's a skilled rapper and lyricist, but I like his songs just the way they are.

I'm not sure what your expecting from someone without music production background, who writes and produces all of his own music. Him getting a professional producer would completely go against the vibe that he sets as a commentary channel… his music is meant to sound like bedroom pop. This criticism is like telling him to start filming in a film studio instead of his house to make his videos look more "professional."
