In mammals the form of moles does the same thing. Moles have evolved in separate types of mammals, these false moles are things like marsupial moles and mole-like species in the fossil record that aren’t true moles. And like false crabs and true crabs the family talpidae which moles are within is quite complex, with three subfamilies make up talpidae. Desmans are within talpidae but don’t live the same classic underground lifestyle that moles are known for, instead live a semi-aquatic lifestyle and are in a separate subfamily but still look very mole like
