Instead of Watching The Oscars Make a Movie!

Joel Haver | September 12, 2026

WATCH THIS – https://youtu.be/tkg858APzFk

All donations to the stream will go towards the award ceremony!

THE RULES
1. Movies must be shot in their entirety during the runtime of The Oscars (March 27th 5pm-8pm PST, if The Oscars run late you can keep filming until they’re done)
2. Movies must be feature length (40+ Minutes). If you wind up making a great 30-35 minute movie, don’t stretch it to be 40 minutes arbitrarily, just submit it regardless. Still try your hardest to make your movie 40+ minutes though.
3. You’ll have the whole week following The Oscars to edit the movie. Movies must be submitted to the email in the announcement video by midnight on April 3rd (that’s the night of April 3rd, end of the day Sunday).
4. Movies must be AVAILABLE PUBLICLY ON YOUTUBE when submitted. That way anyone can watch them before the awards. I’ll compile a public playlist of all the movies and share it.
5. If you’re in a time zone where The Oscars are too late or you’re working during The Oscars, you’re welcome to film at a different time. Just set a three hour timer for shooting and don’t watch the Oscars and you’re good! But if filming during The Oscars is an option, do that!
6. There are no limitations how you capture the movie, you can use phones, green screen, capture game footage, screen record zoom meetings, etc.

Joel, I have made the most upsetting thing I have ever made for this competition. I have just finished. I think that I may have lost my sanity in the editing process. This is the most fun I've had in a while.

Hi Joel! I just sent you an email but I have a super super important question.. Are we allowed to use copyrighted music in our movie? We've used music that YouTube has the rights to before in our sketches, and it's never seemed to be a problem before – but is it a problem for you if you want to do your own oscars night going through the movie? I really hope you see this so we can know.. We've been editing our movie and can't wait for you to see it 🙂 Be on the lookout for a VHS-shot horror/comedy/surrealist film about 4 brothers 😉 Thanks!!

Very interesting and spartan stream. Cool concept for sure. Being a "fly on the wall" for these off handed conversations and random encounters has been a mood for sure lol. Love you man, you do what you do the best.
