Instead of Watching The Oscars Make a Movie 2023!

THE RULES
1. Movies must be shot in their entirety during the runtime of The Oscars (March 12th 5pm-8pm PST, if The Oscars happen to run late you can keep filming until they’re done)
2. Try you hardest to make your movie feature length (40+ Minutes). If you have a great shorter movie, don’t sacrifice your edit and stretch it to be 40 minutes arbitrarily, you can submit it regardless.
3. You’ll have the whole week following The Oscars to edit the movie. Movies must be submitted to ishotamovieduringtheoscars@gmail.com by midnight the night of March 19th.
4. Movies must be AVAILABLE PUBLICLY ON YOUTUBE when submitted. That way anyone can watch them. I’ll compile a public playlist of all the movies.
5. Have fun!
6. If you’re in a time zone where The Oscars are too late or you’re working during The Oscars, you’re welcome to film at a different time. Just set a three hour timer for shooting and don’t watch the Oscars and you’re staying true to the heart of the event!
All donations to the stream will go towards next year’s award ceremony!

Austin from the Undolphin channel here 👋 🙂 me and my friends had a ton of fun just being creative and shooting a feature length film. We recorded uptown funk with just our voices as the credits music ☠️

Filmed my movie on monday 🙂 edited it today! I'm proud of my friends and myself for creating something out of nowhere. Quick question on how to send it to you: the media file is too big for me to attach it to an e-mail- is there a concrete way of doing this? 🙂 excited to see the other movies!

This was actually a fun way of making my first feature length. In the middle of editing and it’s all so much fun. Way more than I thought it would be. So cheers!

While I started my movie and wasn't able to finish it because of some not fun stuff getting in the way, I really love this challenge and I'm glad I got inspired by it. I honestly wanted to make something personal and creative, get some rotting ideas out of my head and throw them together. Not even caring about making it very good. Wish I was able to do that yesterday, but I can just plan to do it again on my own soon. Thanks for creating the Oscars challenge (is that what this is called?) cause it was the encouragement I really needed atm to know I could definitely do things.

First time doing 'During the Oscars' it in the UK yesterday, had so much fun, though I did shoot it in the daytime between 2pm and 5pm, so technically not during the Oscars, but I believe that's allowed. Having so much fun editing it and experimenting.
Question for people and/or Joel: Is stock footage/royalty-free footage allowed? The majority of my movie is what I've shot, but I have sequences that use footage from people online, and I'm editing it to be a part of the story.

First oscars challenge in the books! The person I was going to shoot with decided not to at the last second, so I shot mine alone and improvised. It's…interesting, to say the least lol. Maybe I can get something out of it in editing. Thanks for motivating me to do this Joel!

This was our first year doing the challenge, and it was a blast! This will be our first feature film we've ever made, it's something we've always wanted to do and so it so was great to try this out in such an extreme and crazy way. Thank you Joel Haver for always inspiring us to just see what's possible

Finished my first solo project last night and loved it! Spent most of my time rushing around the house setting up shots before scrambling to get to the next one!
I will definitely be doing this again next year, it was such a rush and really inspirational to see so many others joining in too. Joel's attitude to filmmaking is just so encouraging and infectious and it's definitely changed my perceptions of cinema since I left film school.

Im exhausted as heck and just made it back from a 2 hour drive home from my friends house but we did it… we made a movie! Excited to get sleep deprived this week now that editing begins!… 🥴 🍄📽 Looking forward to movies this year!
