Somehow I have gradually lost my interest after the first four albums. Gave the new album a listen today while walking in a forest, but nothing sticked out apart from The Banished.

On paper, Insomnium should be one of my favourite bands, but I just can't get over the tinny and thin production. It is just so distracting to me.

The best and most consistent band in Melodeath. Tbh, every criticism feels like nit picking, ranking the albums feels illegal.

When you said that it's difficult to rank their albums because they are all at least really good, I couldn't agree more and with a big smile! I've talked to many Insomnium fans, and all ofnus rank the albums differently and, unlike with other bands, it's all legitimate!

dude, you totally nailed how I feel about Insomnium at 11:00. I really have to be in the right head space to listen to them because they are so melancholic, and if you're not feeling it the music can make you feel even worse despite how good it is. Glad to see there is a bit more hope and joy on their latest release.

For me, Insomnium should be Hypersomnium, as their albums put me to sleep. That said, I can appreciate their place in melodic death metal.

Great video as always 🤘 Really enjoying the new album. While We Sleep is an absolutely fantastic song and I also love The Offering. The way the guitars crescendo to the climax is just amazing. One of my favourite Insomnium moments is the shimmering, glistening cymbals on “Inertia” from “One for Sorrow”. Such a gorgeous sound and way to introduce the album 🤘

Insomnium is one of my favorite bands and I've seen them in concert several times (one of my most memorable concerts was seeing them with Scar Symmetry, Katatonia, and Swallow the Sun in Chicago in 2007) because after their set Niilo came out in the crowd and stood by me near the soundboard so I had a good chat with him.
Although you ranked it lower, The Day it All Came Down is one of my favorite albums of all time and I ranked it at the top. I have the new album at Fantastic as I need more time to hear it but I didn't rank any of their albums below amazing, because they are consistently amazing…or better.

I think this might be their worst album, though I haven't listened to the debut for a long time. Shadowlife is thieir worst opening song since Through The Shadows with painfully mid clean vocals. Gleam in the Black is a worse version of Ephemeral…. the slower tracks don't hit emotionally really at all and just sound corny.
There's still a lot to like and The Hour Grows Late, Arch of the Sky and The Banished are all excellent.
Above The Weeping World and Winter's Gate are my favourites, but I would rate Anno a lot higher. Love how moody that one is (although White Christ is definitely a snooze fest)

After finishing School and went to a mental Health Clinic, I moved to a new City. Went to the local Library and got Shadows of the Dying Sun. That changed my Life.
