Indian Boarding School Discussions – Why Repatriation is Important
The upcoming Why Repatriation is Important livestream event will focus on repatriation of the children who died at Indian boarding schools as well as the healing that needs to take place in tribal communities to overcome the intergenerational trauma associated with Indian boarding school experiences.
Across the United States, many former Indian boarding schools have cemeteries on their grounds, including the former Carlisle Industrial Boarding School in Pennsylvania. The graves of deceased Indian children buried at Carlisle fall under the control of the U.S. Army, which has taken the position that the graves of Indian children buried there are not subject to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Many Indian law experts disagree with the U.S. Army’s stance.

hello to all my name is gustavio mejia i'm a native member of the little river band of ottawa indians of michigan when i was young about 5 or 6 my siblings and my self had to go to harbor springs michigan in harbour springs michigan the some of the nuns their where mean to us but their was some nice nuns that i liked one was named sister apachiwella god rest her soul one Halloween night we all sat down for supper when i was 5 i think and the nuns brought a big silver tray with a top on it they rolled the cart that held the tray on it to our mejis table they put a decapitated black bears head in front of where i was sitting i was told to lift the lid from the plater and screamed then one of the nuns grabed the black bears head and rubbed it in my face and ear remember i'm five yrs old then cant remember how long i've had night mares from that i did not get educated at all at that school if we didn't learn how to do the math or writing the never explained to us how to work out how to do the math or writing we got beaten one night before going to bed a sister called me to her room to talk to me i cant remember what happen while i was in her room as i was so young i am not saying that she did anything sexual to me or not because i i'm not sure if she did or not as i was very young and can't remember i've been traumatized from my treatment from them people there till this day i am 56 yrs old and don't trust any one anymore and i swear to god this really happened to me thank you

Thank you so much for this video. My Family are Yurok, the largest tribe in California. My grandmother is now 82 years old and has informed me that she had older brothers that "disappeared" and never talked about. She now wants to know what happened to them. I am happy and sadden to start this journey in search of them.
