And yet I do still love the several hours of celebrities congratulating each other and will watch every year for many reasons: fancy dresses, I'm a sucker for a good montage, I want to get recommendations/see if my favorites win, because of the weird nature of fame I feel an irrational emotional connection to many of these people and always wind up saying things like "I'm so happy for him, he's long overdue" about an actor 'finally winning' on their 6th nomination even though six nominations indicates theyve already gotten far more recognition than almost every other performer on earth, let alone in that room. It's weird, but I enjoy it. And hey, it's not like I'm losing lots of money betting on my faves to win!
