I fucking hate modern fast food and restaurants in general. If you want anything good/unique nowadays, you have to make it yourself for the most part. Ghost kitchens REALLY can fuck off imo. You wonder why 18 of the 30 restaurants on uber eats all taste the same? They're coming out of the same 3 kitchens.

Microwaved sysco slop, increasingly inattentive servers that seem to resent their customers while demanding higher and higher percentages of tip on increasingly priced, pesticide ridden, generic food. It's no wonder people aren't eating out as much.

I remember going to Costa Rica like 4 years ago, and on the hour drive to the town, we passed tons of farms and plantations, I was so excited to eat local food. The first restaurant we went to was delicious and I raved about it during the whole meal. After we paid and left, I saw a Sysco truck pull up behind the restaurant and I couldn't believe it, I had been completely fooled.

I quit eating at places that don't serve real food… it was easy. I simply moved to Thailand and Columbia. 😉 SUPER EASY!!!

Yes its food distributors lol if you want unique food go ti a mom and pop shop.
For example, US Foods and Roma Foods distribute food to restaurants all over. Its the same food. Its not a conspiracy lol

When food establishments all use the same exact 2 or three suppliers then yes everything WILL taste the same. However the food system forces sellers to go through these same distribution centers. Sysco being the biggest. It’s a monopoly with the false image of choice.

this is why as a European I will never move to the states. I am often asked why I don't move, as I could HYPOTHETICALLY move quite easily and make 3-4x what I make now. But for what? To be part of some billionaires plan? To eat manufactured food?
Nah, let me make my peanuts here in Europe, avoid ICE, toxic politics, processed food etc. Money is not worth it.

If i go to a restaurant, and i stress, i mean restaurant and not some take-away joint, i expect the food to be freshly prepared BY HAND.
As a teen, i jobbed at a little restaurant we had two villages over during my vacation time and we got the meat from the local butcher and during the morning hours, we'd prepare it. Pound, season, bread etc, whatever the meat needed.
Same with veggies. We got them from the local farmers and then where busy cutting salad, and processing potatoes to whatever shape was needed etc.
Noodles, rice and similar things was bought from a big retailer though.
Alot of work, but i did get to take leftovers home too and they were really tasty. 😀
I was in charge of prep work and later dishwashing, nothing particularly difficult, but still important. The scariest thing was a machine to cut charcuterie with because the edge of the blade was wicked sharp. One day i was a bit too careless and made a too quick movement and the (stillstanding!) machine cut right through my fingernail. From the top. Chef was freaking out (bled alot) and his wive just calmly went to get the firts aid kit. And i was just there: oops.. Nail regrew and nothign scarred luckily.
That's kinda what i expect when i enter a restaurant.
That being said, the whole situation with Sisco (and immediate competition) is incredibly toxic and it needs to be split up asap. Let local producers flourish again.

Until the American public stops eating this reheated crap, they'll continue to serve it. The issue is less Sysco and more people OK with eating overprocessed garbage.

Cant find a good restaurant in florida even the small restaurants have crap food all made by sysco were thru as a nation! Greed has taken over im 78 ive had it with corporate greed!

All of this is driven by price sensitivity. As long as Americans want the lowest possible price, companies like Sysco will exist.
