As an American, these highly specific jobs that go back far far longer than 200 years and are directly related to actual ruling authoritative royalty, yet have been performed in continuity for the entire time, is absolutely wild to me.

I've been waiting for this episode ever since I saw you were doing every county!

My grandmother used to live right near there and I've done that walk once or twice with Cedric Robinson, who was the Queen's Guide before he passed away in 2021. It's such a lovely area, but it's also notorious for how teacherous it is. There's a lovely long beach all along the bay on the other side (at Grange-Over-Sands) that you simply can't go on because it's too unpredictable and dangerous. And on very rare occasions the tide will come sweeping in from all the way out in a single wave, known as “The Boar”.

When he said "450 years of tradition"… this stroll through a river is older than the United States. I knew that but this perspective makes it feel completely different

I can't focus on the video. I can't get over what a big deal they made over a guy at the beach wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and sunscreen. What's wrong with any of that?

Waterproof shoes are a choice to be sure. I learned in the army that the only way to keep feet dry is to have bare feet. I used crocs, some psychos used expensive birkenstocks.

When I was a kid in the 1960's, I thought that quicksand was everywhere. It seemed to me that every movie had someone getting stuck in quicksand.

Great video. I walked across Morecambe Bay back in the 1980s with Cedric Robinson as guide. We went from Silverdale, where I grew up, to Grange, and the weather wasn't quite as good as you had. I also saw the Duke of Edinburgh driving a horse-drawn couch across the bay back then.
