I Know Why Trump’s Pathetic Circus Is Collapsing | The Daily Beast Podcast
Kurt Andersen and Joanna Coles dive into the spectacle, symbolism, and political theater surrounding Donald Trump’s latest White House ambitions, from plans for a UFC-style event on the South Lawn to a MAGA-branded America 250 celebration that’s already losing major performers. Andersen explains why Trump’s embrace of entertainment, celebrity culture, and grievance politics was visible decades ago, tracing the roots of what he calls America’s long-running “Fantasyland” obsession with self-created narratives. Along the way, they unpack the cabinet’s astonishing displays of loyalty, Trump’s fixation on revenge, the unraveling politics around Iran, and a startling 1991 MAD Magazine cartoon that seemed to predict Trump’s future with uncanny accuracy. It’s a conversation about power, performance, and why some of the strangest moments in American politics may reveal more than the biggest headlines.

It wasn't just, on top of the pardons ans sentence commutations, the cop-beating, general destruction, threats against lawmakers, and attempted murder of our VP that render the slush fund payments to Jan 6'ers particularly reprehensible. It's that we ALREADY paid millions of taxpayer dollars ($100 million?) to repair physical damage to Congress, AND spent our justice system's most valuable resources ensuring that justice and public safety were served in the aftermath. If anyone gets paid it should be the victims of that violence AND the taxpayers — BY DONLD J. TRUMP out of his personal pockets. And that is for starters!

The MAD magazine about Trump isn't prophetic, it's cliche and obvious and pastiche. Donald Dumb is a very stupid caricature of a sleazeball businessman; who we've all been mocking for decades. Trump is so oblivious, he's so unoriginal and transparent, he doesn't realize that he's living a life we've been all already been mocking ruthlessly. He's also a psychopath who doesn't care, so he's the worst combination of traits; supreme stupidity and zero shame

Joanna it was not a genius move to block the Strait of Hormuz. It was the most obvious tactic. Anyone who looked at a map of the Persian Gulf would have seen.

Exactly, the best of the Roman emperors understood that the people needed to be fed. And the Roman republic also provided public baths where the plebeians could keep themselves clean, relax and socialise, which was as much health care as the upper classes themselves enjoyed. And then of course there were the coliseums where the people went for free entertainment on public holidays (not that gladiatorial events would have been my bicchiere di vino🍷). Cage fighting for trump toadies by special invitation really shows how low the trump regime has sunk. Trump stuck his name on the Kennedy Centre and then threatened to “renovate” the building when no artists of standing would perform there and audiences stayed away in droves. Now trump’s name has been pulled off and all he has to offer for entertainment is cage fighting on the lawn in front of the Whitehouse. What an apt symbol of who the trump regime really is! Beasts tearing each other apart in a cage to please and appease the bigly beast himself. 👹👺🧌

You know, I'm on the left, but this extended commentary on the dynamics of a sport you evidently know less about than the average high schooler comes off as woefully out of touch with voters and audiences, and not helpful in the slightest.
