“I know Palestine will be free, now more than ever”/ Frances Hasso

The Red Nation | September 10, 2025

[Producer’s note: There are a few spots where I inadvertently clipped the last few seconds of Frances’ answers. Apologies to the viewers and to Frances, as well! If you are curious to hear what was cut you can check the audio edition of the episode that will be posted on The Red Nation Podcast feed this coming Sunday.]

Marking the 76th year since the Nakba (Catastrophe), Nick Estes speaks to Frances Hasso about the history of the term, how Zionist settler colonial violence preceded and continued after the ethnic cleansing war of 1948, and how the Gaza genocide signals how close the liberation of Palestine really is.

Check out Frances’ website for her lecture from April 2024, β€œAcademic Feminisms and Anti-Imperialist Resistance: Conundrums and Contradictions.”

I am quite ashamed to confess I had never heard of Frances Hasso and her scolarship. I just found one of her book in open access (from her website). I will read it with a great curiosity and pleasure. Thanks for this essential interview. From South France.

I would like to express my gratitude to the good people at the Red Nation and their comrade Frances Hasso, for sharing such rigorous and nuanced anti-colonial and anti-imperialist work.

I've worked in high risk domestic violence. When the victim has escaped or escaping, that's when the risk for homicide or homicide-suicide is at the most extreme. Indigenous people and anyone interwoven in liberation are almost free. So the abuser is homicidal.

I also use syphilis as a metaphor. After a diagnosis and treatment applied, an inexperienced healer may be frightened by the high spikes fever that often comes mid treatment. Might abandon the penicillin for some ineffective option. But the experienced healer knows, the treatment is working and the fever is just a last gasp of the disease before it's vanquished.

    Straight ahead, comrades. Persevere.

    The treatment is working.

Palestine will be free. And Sudan will be free. And Congo will be free. And Haiti will be free. And Turtle Island will be free.

    Free the Land.
    All power to the people.

Does the guest really believe the SMO of the Russian Federation in Ukraine is imperialist? Not clear but if so, she needs to provide material facts on that account.

Thomas Jefferson promoted a war of attrition in his 1803 letter to then Indian agent / war secretary William Henry Harrison saying to push American trading houses and their uses to make the settler American population believe the Indians were in debt to their big company bosses which then creates relocation jobs / military jobs / scalping jobs etc. which lead up to let them eat grass then the uprising I’m comparing to Palestines oct 7th. America said we beheaded babies too pretty much and that’s all the scare ya into justifying war thing is, more land n rent.

Oh ya dakota removal was / is just like Palestine: geographic range in miles from Kaposia Minnesota to lake traverse reserve etc as Gaza is from Lebanon or Egypt a few hundred miles away plus the mentality to relocate those people into other non settler nations now just like 1862 plus calling both conflicts a war by mainstream media which was the printing press back then. Also the akicita name for warriors we were compared to terrorists as the warriors now are compared to USA troops renamed by our so called conquerors and military employers, USA in control of our narrative in mainstream shouldn’t be. Also the Supreme Court English rule decision and why it’s like a foreign dictatorship after being conquered by the white race etc. ans how land rights play into racism based on this.

"All People's have the right to self defence from Colonial rule, including armed resistance"

    UN Charter: Protocol 1

    Govt by People's Referenda:
Peaceful Encampment of our Capitals until it's installed, or run Mascot Candidates

Single Issue Referendums with thresholds and a social contract means Communities can vote their own laws.

A Public Authority can audit police and prosecute bad cops in our own courts.

Nationalise resources and give Indigenous peoples the right of Sovereignty over them as Guardians.

This can be achieved through a General Strike or Velvet Revolution, much like the Occupy movement, peacefully occupying State Buildings until a People's Mandate can be implemented.

With the appropriate checks and balances, you could have a national digital forum where qualified professionals can debate the issues in a public setting without all the disinformation and bad faith antics, hatespeech etc.

Any vote would need to pass the 70% threshold, with a veto or rewrite vote needing 30%.

The issues would be debated, the public educated, and then a vote taken. Votes that fail will have to wait a year before trying again. Any new proposal (Citizen Initiated Referendum) would have to reach a threshold of support before it made it onto the register.

This would be subject to a Social Contract (New Constitution) that forbids human rights abuses and discrimination.

That can be written in the same manner based on the core principles we all share. Councils and Boards could operate in the same fashion at Scale.

It works in a way that obligates people to better educate themselves ( that is to use logic and evidence in their reasoning ) for a better understanding of the issues, and then take collective responsibility for the outcomes. As opposed to the divisive US v them scapegoating and bi-partisan finger pointing the current Capitalist Pyramid Scheme runs on.

    Enough is enough
We need Government by People's Referenda, either through Mascot Candidates or Peaceful Encampment of the Capitals until one is established.

Make it an annual event on Oct 14
