How To Use The Deepmind With Your Modular

Benn Jordan | April 12, 2026

Behringer, nor seemingly anyone properly documented how to use the Deepmind with CV or Gate. So I figured I’d take a stab at it.

Use both Mac and PC professionally for 30+ years for demanding creative work, they are both just fine. I have never been physically threatened by a Mac user, though i have been verbally attacked by PC users for defending the idea that both platforms are just fine. Benn, you look like an aggro douche when you espouse tribalism over something as pointless as a computer OS. The human race is literally on the verge of extinction because of our inability to grow up past tribalism and lack of respect for other people and our ecosystem.

Hi, you have mentioned that you have re-wired cable for FootCtrl/CV, what does it mean? I am a total noob in this case and also wanted to hook my Deepmind to a small modular system in the future the way you have presented and hopefully not blowing things up, could you describe how this cable should be modified, that would be awesome 🙂

Is there a way to trigger the DM12's sequencer steps using an external clock or the CV? My intention is to run a few notes when triggered by a Roland TR-8S. I want the designated 'instrument track' on the TR-8S to advance the deepmind's sequence one step at a time every time there is a step on the TR for the given track. Thanks for the time you took on this – great content for otherwise missing informs on the topic.

    From the Deepmind manual:

7.3.3 Pedal Settings: "The PEDAL/CV input can also work with a CV (Control Voltage) input from any

source with a 0 to +5 Volt output, for example, the control voltage from a

    modular synthesizer"

    So 0 to +5 volts.

So….I an idiot. Have no idea what I'm doing. Have way too much gear and no idea how to use it. Is there any point to having a software rig (Ableton with a push 2) AND hardware? I have a Kurzweil 2600, Fa08, Microbrute, Moog Opus 3 and a deep mind 12. So what do I get rid of? I absolutely love the sound of the DM but is there a way to get all the synths to talk to each other. I need help. I suck at learning. Help!

I wonder how to do it the other way. I am using a PC DAW to control my instruments and am used to control them via MIDI / USB MIDI. I recently bought a small modular and now want to control it. I need a MIDI-To-CV converter, right? Can someone recommend a good one? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Benn,
I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to make drum sounds from synths as you appear to be doing here. I've been trying to find tutorials on how to do it but there don't seem to be many I can find that use Fruity Loops or explain things as well as you do. Thanks for reading this and doing these videos they're all really interesting.

Hey. First of all, I like your channel a lot. This seems to be one of the few gear-oriented channels hosted by someone who really knows what they’re talking about. I have kind of a general question that applies to both the deepmind as well as the Mother 32. I’m thinking about getting both but my concern is that on both you only get a saw and square/pwm shape for the oscillator(s). Not having a triangle or sine shape concerns me. I find that with subtractive synthesis I stick to saw and square waves a lot but that sometimes for something like a really basic bass sound I’ll reach for a triangle wave. I’m just curious what your take on this is? Like, is there a way to achieve the kind of mellow vibe of a triangle/sine with a saw or square? I’m relatively new to the world of synths, so sorry if this seems like an odd question.
