How to SHIP VINYL RECORDS | Media Mail Guide 2026
USPS offers Media Mail Shipping, but are vinyl records considered media, and can they ship this way? Today I’m answering that question and providing a few other tips for shipping vinyl. Having sold nearly 1,000 albums online, I also briefly discuss some of the best places to sell your records online! Finally, when discussing the US Postal Service Media Mail option, I talk about the benefits of media mail, when items ARE considered media, and when you cannot use the media mail.

Hi. This was helpful. Are the packaging tips the same for shipping (jacketed) vinyl records in bulk, i.e. wrap each record individually in the special record mailers)? Also, do you have a good source for the mailers at a good price? Thank you

I've ordered 2 records from ebay, both have gotten lost in transit. I feel like someone in the post office is stealing records.

I'm a reseller and sell mainly clothes. I came across some records that I want to sell as well.
Since I'm not a "vinyl seller", I don't have those record mailing
boxes, nor do I want to go buy a pack of 50.
So….what else can I use to ship a record?
I'm assuming a regular box and cut it down to size?
Thank you!

I want to send my brother about 250-300 albums (from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. ) They are my personal lps that I’ve had for 40 years. What is the best way to do this?

Ok so on ebay, whats the right strategy…
Buy it Now price OR run an auction and let that baby fly!!
By the way, the vinyl im selling are in high demand. A couple of them going for $200 – $300 a pop.
Limited. Unopened / sealed.
So im thinking i might do an auction but i dont do ebay so who knows!!

i have a vinyl 45 that is new, still in shrink wrap, that i want to sell/mail. seems like a selling point that it has never been opened but it seems that people don't mail shrink wrapped vinyl, they take the record out of the cover… so my question is, is it fine to send in the shrink wrap or should i open it and remove the record before sending?

Can you tell me where you shelves are from? I'm looking for something simple like that, which fits 12×12 vinyls. TIA

You can ship a letter of something like a birthday card inside the package via Media Mail. It's called a first class insert and it adds the current stamp value (right now, .68) to the total cost of the package. Also, if your window clerk is a music junkie and collector like I am, be prepared to talk about music. It's always nice to find someone with the same interests.

I noticed that since eBay is more widely known, people tend to ask for a higher price, and eBay takes 12%. Discogs I believe takes 9%. But I've bought from both.
