How the puppies are made!
And that’s how the puppies are made…literally! We got this steamy moment from the Shoepack Lake Pack in early February, which is the middle of mating season!
The breeding pair “in action” has been together since at least 2017. The pair looks poised to produce at least their 5th litter together! Unfortunately, we don’t have great data on these wolves prior to 2017 so we don’t know exactly how long they have been together.
We are not sharing this to be gross, which might cross a few minds, but rather because this is a key part of wolf biology and reproduction, and seeing this kind of behavior in forested places like Voyageurs is rare.
And thus, the biologists in us think this is pretty darn cool and that others might think so as well!
