How The California Desert Changed Rock and Metal Forever
In episode 295 of Heavy Metal Philosophy, Jon Barbas chats with Jason Georgiades, the filmmaker behind “Desert Age: A Rock and Roll Scene History”. Jason is joined by Sophia Possidon, a photographer in the Palm Springs desert rock scene in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. This is the scene that shaped bands like Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu, Fatso Jetson, Yawning Man, The Eagles of Death Metal, and many more. Listen in to hear the insane story about kids growing up in the shadow of the wealthy elites’ hedonistic playground, and the music it spawned!

Sophia always does a great job.. In these interviews.. She was A witness, there from the beginning she is unbiased objective altho she favors the heavy bands, I believe Reeder was in school band in junior high and high school. 1984 Olympics are a reminder.. Also me and Randy jansen had some times with happy Tom from Turbonegro, They know weirdos from the desert and we know weirdos when we see them. Desert musicians are like jumping. Cactus.. a bunch of pricks that stick with you..

Out in the middle of nowhere in the desert???? ๐คฃ I growup here in the Rancho Mirage cove and this isn't the 1950 and 1960 anymore. It's funny people that are not from here don't know what there talking about. I still live here but in the hi-desert Joshua Tree.
