INFO: What made Pixies so unique? Some fans would say Charles Thompson’s aka Black Francis’ surreal lyrics and wailing vocals or Kim Deal’s sugar sweet backing vocals and punchy bass-lines or maybe David Lovering’s frenetic and heavy playing style. Although it probably was the sum of their parts that made them stick out from the crowd in the end, I want to focus more on their guitar work in this video. Guitarist Joey Santiago and vocalist and rhythm guitarist Charles Thompson created guitar music with an extreme variety of influence. Everything from hardcore punk, country, noise, pop and blues was considered and re-interpreted into their very own sound. I have no idea how they did it, but in this video we’ll try to find out.
