Another important thing I would like to add is that, we have to be kind. Regardless of the topic, climate change or vaccination or whatever, I think if they are not too far gone enough some basic humanity and empathy sure still be there in the heart somewhere. I like the example about the vaccination to the kids of anti vax parents.

I just came cross one quite heated conversation. I told another individual that in NZ kiwis refer ‘college’ as ‘High School/Secondary School’. But she kept trying to convince me that ‘College’ is as same as ‘University’ but smaller! I told her we call smaller ‘University’ as ‘Polytechnic’, but we hardly ever call it ‘College’ except for ‘High school’. This is most likely the UK thing since NZ is controlled by the King. I mean her IP located in Canada, I can understand the difference but I don’t understand is why she wouldn’t expect my explanation since I’ve been living here for 20+ years. I told her I felt weird too at the beginning but now I expect it, why can't she realise there’s a ‘culture shock’ in between?

The goal should not be to change another's opinion, but to aprehend the truth through fruitful dialogue. Besides, entering a conversation with the presumption that your fellow interlocutor's opinions are wrong is hardly conducive to efficient persuasion anyhow. Instead, compare both arguments honestly and without motive, using the same standards for each.
Also, some do not want their opinions and beliefs to be challenged, and that is fine. They have a right to be adamant regarding their beliefs, just as many scientifically minded people are. Basically, if an argument is strong enough, all will eventually come to embrace it without coersion.

Yeah, honestly when you think about it, this makes sense…. What does it take for you to keep your opinion the same? Absolutely nothing, no thinking no effort. What does it take to change your own opinion? You have to think, you have to go through cognitive dissonance because it most likely will challenge some of your other beliefs too. You actually have to make effort to change your own opinion… A lot of people are too lazy to think.

Illusion of Explanatory depth is interesting though not full proof.
Personal experience or vigorous research will give you the exact opposite. In witch case since you can not personally experience everything for the things you do strongly believe you should take the time to build a base on the basis of witch you believe.

It's absolutely true, people don't care about facts. People don't want truth, they only want affirmation that what they already believe is true

I have arguments with my friends like literally every day and they would just resort to these three things:

    1. Saying the most stupid things ever, like science did not create medicine, or violence would tell us about the universe.
    2. Blocking their ears and screaming out video game theme songs, or simply giving me the silent treatment for five minutes and walking away.
    3. Violence.
