i just wanna say, lead is still a major issue. we get letters in the mail here in Long Island, NY about large levels of lead being found in our drinking water. it’s scary!

Beaker getting hurt IS ALWAYS funny!

UL, underwriter laboratories, basically tests market-bound electronic goods for common sense safety in design, like shorting out and becoming ruined INSTEAD of faithfully staying lit up whilst catching fire.

The Berlin Wall was one of the flashpoints of the Cold War, which always already had the threat of becoming nuclear war; ANY commercial referencing that and Christmas necessarily advocated a tone of peace, human love, and tolerance.

Yeah, it was SCARY being a child in a news-literate house in the 80s and early 90s.

The UKs PSAs are always child death, or child being predated on, or basically psychological horror for any parent, because most parents are too burnt out with the weather n all, so they (and the children too) need to be mentally scared to make sure it doesn’t happen lol

Side note, we have actual short films about what pedos might do to you in various scenarios, which my primary school (elementary/1st year middle school) thought would benefit kids from 4 – 11. Lets just say majority of the 4 year olds couldn’t sleep for weeks because of it :/

UL is a third party certification agency that tests and confirms that electronics are safe, essentially. There's way more to it than that, but at the highest level, it's a stamp certifying that your electrical device won't catch on fire.

The bait and switch is entirely on purpose because rather than psychological warfare that is commercials to get you to buy or just spend time watching which you pay with, it is meant to catch you off guard and pay attention. Good safety/awareness PSA's are usually that or friendly like Dick Van Dyke or muppets. And it works.

Best one I ever saw was a claymation of an adult kicking a kid down the stairs and it's all comedic because it's claymation, then it says "real children don't get back up." and shows a kid face down not moving. It was an anti child abuse psa.
Others are somewhat unhinged, but that is the point. Everything is all fine and status quo till something awful goes wrong. Best thing you can always do is prevention. Don't expect danger, but prepare for it if it shows up. They're not meant to ruin your day, but let you be aware that things can go south real fast when we're not careful.
hazard work place, fire and car safety are generally the most "WTF did I just watch" ones because they are the ones that ruin lives.
