Historical Fashion Trends That Seem Weird To Us Today
The fashion choices of the 16th and 17th centuries differed drastically from those of centuries past. During the medieval period, outfits were chosen to keep the wearer slim; however, the fashion of the 16 and 17th centuries was all about making the wearer as big and rotund as possible. Bombast, usually made up of cotton, wool, horsehair, or even sawdust, was the material they used to achieve this bold look.

THANK YOU SIR LOL INDEED THANK GOD THAT WAS ALL THEN & NOW NO MORE🤣🤣🤣 GOOD RIDDANCE! BUT IN THE LATE 80s TO 90s THE POINTY SHOES BECAME A TREND, IT WAS DUBBED "WITCH SHOES" AHAAHAAAAHAAAAAA! 🤣 FASHION TRENDS ARE MOSTLY RIDICULOUS, SO RARELY DOES FASHION MAKE SENSE. I LIKED THE TIME THE SHORT BLACK MILITARY BOOTS DID TREND & I BOUGHT A PAIR COZ ITS PRACTICAL & STURDY. GOOD FOR RAINY DAYS!

The suppression of highland dress was not a random act, but an attempt to suppress the clan system following the 1715 and 1745 Jacobite Rebellions – and it did not apply to Government Highland Regiments, notably the 42nd.

I was very surprised when I was a teen to see a photo of my very prim & proper Gran (born in 1907) in a "flapper" dress. Turned out that before she had Mum, she was quite outgoing! She looked absolutely fabulous in her dress, despite it not being an expensive item. Well, it may have been expensive to her, but it certainly wouldn't have cost as much as those of the upper classes!

Can’t wait to show my granny that kilts were included on a list of weird clothes. 😆 Seriously though considering thousands of modern ppl, Scots and pretenders, wear kilts, they aren’t weird to modern ppl and shouldn’t be on this list

The pointy Krakow shoes were a dick-measuring contest – literally. The length of the point was supposed to correspond to the length of the wearer’s cock, so naturally dudes got into ridiculous arms races over having the longest, pointiest shoes

I know this is an odd question, but what are Youtube's censorship rules? Plenty of nudity in the classical paintings, but there's a hard line at a woman breastfeeding in a painting? Good thing you don't do videos about baroque art..🙄

Corsets were no more uncomfortable to wear than a bra. That they were painfull is a fad. The waists in the pictures look tiny because a. both the hips and the breasts were heavily padded and b. painters came with build in photoshop.

If you think some of the fashion trends of yesteryear seems weird to us now think about how future generations will think on our fashion trends of today!
@saragrant9749
March 26, 2026 at 3:56 pm
Considering this current generation consists of wearing jeans around one’s knees- halfway down the ass end, fake nails that are eight or more inches long, hair that is every color of the rainbow and more, “the smoky eye” makeup (that more resembles a zombie look), skirts so short one might as well not bother, untied sneakers and more… we can’t exactly look with disdain at the fashion of the past without being more than a little hypocritical.
