Help Me Make a Video About The Cure!

Let’s do something different this time around. I’m planning to make a new video about The Cure, and i would love to hear the memories you’ve made while listening to their music. I’m giving away one of The Cure’s albums on vinyl to the person who’s got the best story about their listening experience.

    The Cure was very influential to most indie bands and teenagers in The Philippines back in the 80s and during that time there was only one radio station that plays The Cure in Manila,I lived in the Southern Luzon part which is about 39km from Manila and I will tune in to that station despite the very weak signal(Martial Law was still in effect at that time) just to hear a song from The Cure, the first cassette I bought was Boy's Don't Cry Album and it change my life forever,I decided to grab an old guitar and try to form a band while some of my friends went to drugs or joined some local gangs,I was about 12 or 13 at that time,The Cure helped me survived the misery of being in highschool, I would save money to buy cassettes(Vinyl was way off my budget at that time).Lock myself in my room to listen to The Cure album,it helped me a lot in appreciaitng other music artist and genres as well like Psychedelic rock,Jimi Hendrix and The Doors.Im in my mid 40's now and without The Cure my life will be entirely a complete failure,The Cure made me "dare to be different" which has been my Mantra and I guessed it helped me succeed in life.

    Hey there! I’ve watched a few of your videos and I can only say great job man! The Cure is one of my all-time favorite bands so when i saw you were about to make a video on this group i was thrilled. Honestly this band created so much great songs going from jangle pop (boys don’t cry) goth rock (A Forest) new wave (In Between Days) through dream pop (the whole Disintegration album is a masterpiece) with genius lyrics written by the one and only Robert Smith. Be sure to talk about their evolution from a pop trio to a goth band and then a synth heavy phase before being labelled alternative, can’t wait to see the final video!👍🏻

    I was a fan of The Cure, a big fan to the point I was only listening to The Cure only for months. My first time was while listening to the Same deep water as you… 😂 With candles burning and shit… Oh man… I blushed. Good old days.

    Okay! This story is going to sound kinda bs but I swear this is a true story. Firstly, I've seen the cure 4-5 times now? I forget. I go to alot of shows. But… In 1996, heartbroken by a girlfriend of 5 years cheating on me with one of my best friends (from 1st grade too). I was twenty-one and another REAL best friend's dad had just moved from Mississippi to Denver Colorado, and after a semester of college he decided to split from Mississippi for the mountains. Well, after discovering the very misfortunate event of one of HIS best friend's betrayed heart, he decided to pack up his truck and drive to Louisiana and pick me up! And after a couple of weeks, visiting another great friend, who was stationed at Fort Knox, in Kentucky (not on a map; check it out for yourself), we took another 2 day trip across country to Denver to stay with his dad for the remainder of the summer… We saw 311 and Spearhead in Red Rocks as well as Pantera, White Zombie, and I Hate God; and surprising me, he had already bought us tickets to see The CURE at the local Arena (I can't remember the name of it). Another great thing about my friend, besides being the great friend that he was and also the talented drummer of our Band, him and I were pretty much the only two people in a rural Mississippi High School who loved or even liked The Cure. My own girlfriend used to make fun of me when I liked "Friday I'm In Love", upon its release! My older brother was a DJ so I had been listening to the cure since grade school. He got me "All Mixed Up" for Xmas when I was in Junior High School! Well the Cure were playing only a few days before I was to fly to Dallas Texas, where my mom had been living since I was 12. By chance, the Cure was also playing in New Orleans about a week after there show in Denver and I had my brother get us tickets since I was going to attend LSU and be an hour away from New Orleans by the start of the semester and luckily before the Show (see what I did there!)
    So we went to see the concert and the Cure was fuckin Amazing!!! They are one of the few bands that sound better live than on their albums!!! No kidding! Well I had a great time and then a few days later it was time to say goodbye to my wonderful vacation and my friend and fly stupid Delta to DFW. Well on the plane sitting diagonally behind me in another Ile adjacent seat, was this lanky, crazy-looking, 7 foot tall, red-haired, nut. I knew that this famous band had played in Denver and I thought I had heard on Denver Radio that they were playing in Dallas next but? There's no way that I'm sitting coach on a domestic Delta Airways one hour flight? About 5 feet from fuckin Johnny Rotton?!?! Of the Sex Pistols?!?! Couldn't be. He didn't even have ONE friend or enteurage member; just him! WTF?!?! I couldn't be sure cause I didn't want to be obviously trying to look at him if I turned around! So like everyone else on the flight, I ignored this guy who stands out in ANY croud whether he was a rock star or not!
    Now to be fair man, I am alot like you. I am no big punk fan. I like the Ramones and the Clash and the Cure and some grunge and Rock stuff. But I honestly was a way bigger fab of the movie, "Sid and Nancy," than I was of any sex pistols music…😬 Sry YouTube! I have alot of these weird experiences were I meet famous or semi-famous people (Like Rivers Coumo was an asshole, hanging out after a Weezer show at HOB New Orleans but The ROOTS and Common were really cool nice and fun ppl!?!? Idk.)
    Well in the DFW airport, there's like 3? Fans? Hanging out and getting Johnny Rotton's autograph. Of course, my mom was like, "who is that? People are getting pictures with him!" And I dishonesty told my mom that I didn't know and was trying to go to baggage claim when my mom forced me to go talk to a Bullocks fan, whatever that is and that's what she said when I asked her who it was. (Honestly I just didn't want to explain the Sex Pistols to my mom who was a die hard Elvis fan and the pre-druggy Beatles. Lol) Well I was forced to explain the whole situation and the band and what Sex Pistols meant because she didn't understand any of it. I don't think that she knew what punk music was! She said that she did because she bought me Metallica "And Justice For All when I was in 8th grade. I was like, "METAL-icca?!?! It's in the name and it's not punk.
    Well I know that section of this story kinda falls off course for a while with the Johnny Rotton anecdote, but it was music related and their tour was coinciding with the Cures.
    And here's what happened at the Cure Concert pt2. Me and my brother and some friends dropped LSD. We had floor tickets and I started off the concert literally five feet from the center of the stage. They set list was identical… For about 6-7 songs. (They even
    played this little 3song Mashup that they did with Boys Don't Cry, Killing An Arab, Riding Someone Else's Train. And that was it! Every and I mean EVERY fuckin song was a different song from the Denver show. The Acid had kicked in about the time I realized this! And slowly I found my self less social and further and further away from the stage, but EMMERSED in the music and lights!!! I thought I kept thinking that I needed to get a better vantage point to take it all in, until I had "found myself alone, alone…," (jk) but seriously I ended up in the furthermost seat from the stage, in the top row way up in the very BACK of UNO lakefront arena with tears of joy in my eyes, when my people found me…The Cure ended that show in New Orleans with "Like Cocatus." One of the craziest, longest version of the song I've ever heard. It had to be like 10 minutes long, but it felt like an hour! They had ended the show in Denver with the predictable "A Forrest," but the whole New Orleans show was unexpected and therapeutic. You see man, I was really emotionally damaged and was pretty much starting over in life new school, New major, New city, and new friends too. But, as corny as this is going to be; that band and those shows were like my CURE!!! I really began to heal after that. My ex had gotten pregnant with my ex-best friend's baby. They were married for about a year and then… divorce. They both pretty much suck at life to this day. I look back and am kinda thankful now because I would never want my life to be anything like there's has been! I've had fun and found love a few times and a college education as well 😂 but I don't know if this was the kinda story you wanted to read but I promise you this: I fucking LOVE The CURE!!! They saved my life!!!

I'm not trying to win but I am a DJ/Producer Musician with a full studio AND 2 Technique 1200 turntables and a PA that can handle some vinyl! What was that album? The Show?     I was a young man when staring at the sea and disintegration were introduced to me by a friend. The radio songs were big and I couldnt afford almbus so SATS was my album. These songs defined my teens and early twenties. I would listen to the cure at all the important times in my life. When i learned to play guitar. I played metallica and the cure. I love playing jumping someone else's train. This band is my first fan band.

    Imagination Street was my 1st introduction to the Cure. I was 10 and they were on MTV. I didn't like them, but I came back to them in my 30s, and love Boys Don't Cry, Faith and Disintegration. I had a girlfriend who was obsessed with Robert Smith. She loved him and owned all the albums. She went to see them at the Forum around 1998 and had purchased front row tickets from a scalper. They were expensive, and unfortunately fake. She could not get in, and the scalper was long gone. I dropped by her place and she was crying to a Cure marathon.
