He Needs To Stop What He’s Doing Immediately.

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | March 25, 2026

A few of you have asked me to take a look at Post Malone’s cover of Nirvana, I chose his version Heart Shaped Box as it’s one of my favourite Nirvana songs. I have never heard any of Post Malone’s songs before, and no little about him apart from that he is a very successful rapper and hip hop artist. I wasn’t expecting much from this…but I have to say this is not what I was expecting at all. Is this man actually a rockstar disguised as a rapper?! What’s going on?! He needs to stop doing what he’s doing now and start rockin’ out!

If post malone actually respected this music he "covers" he would stop "singing" them he can't sing he sounds like crap he ALWAYS uses that auto-tune garbage and has NO voice.

as a nirvana fan i find it not good but i guess whoever would have sung.. but come on this vibrato is the classic goats vibrato and you know that that is not beautiful.

There's footage of him buying a Les Paul in the documentary about Norman's Rare Guitars, I think a while before he became well known. He's definitely played one for a long time.

80s sounding pedal favored by Albini and used on In Utero (specifically HSB): Electro-harmonix polychorus

His voice was good, but his enunciation was way off – you can argue that’s him bring his own style to the song, but it made it a little jarring. Also, you can’t play Nirvana with a Les Paul and not a Fender.

It’s a cover. Nirvana used to do a pretty good version, maybe leave it at that? The whole music world nowadays seems presently obsessed with doing meagre re-enactments and covers of classic rock tracks, or tracks in general. When the originals were plenty good enough as it is. Playing a version live in front of a live audience? yep sure, partic if the band who wrote/played it originally don’t play anymore, for whatever reason, or if it’s a pub gig or whatever, go for it, more power. But doing a version on line, which everyone seems to do, when the original can already be listened to, online, is frankly a joke. So I f folk, particularly already famous folk, want rock to be revived, maybe get off yer lazy fkn plagiaristic ass, and write some! Added to that, this particular version is weak as p*ss.

I've also never really listened to Post, but this performance was impressive. His gritty voice nailed it, and he did best on No Recess imo.

Justin I'm surprised. Don't you hear that he's singing with a pre-recorded auto tuned track 2nd vocal. His live singing is out of tune. His tone is harsh and unpleasant, and grunge singers are very warm.
