Has Adam Levine Redeemed Himself?!

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | January 3, 2026

As some of you may be aware, one of the few videos where I had nothing good to say was Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger”. It broke me. In light of that, one of you kind souls sent me this video of Adam Levine singing Purple Rain live. I have to say, I was impressed. What I am confused about still, is where did it all go wrong? Have a look at this video and tell me why he moved away from rock?

Oh, it can't get any worse than Maroon 5.
Ugh…it can't get any worse than Train.
Oh yeah?! Here's Adam Levine AND Patrick Monahan!
    Fuck it…just kill me now.

I got maroon 5s first and fourth albums and loved the first, and just like going to see every Daniel Craig bond movie just to be disappointed the movie lacks in every way compared to casino royale, maroon 5 never came close to that first album.

I love you man asa person. But your views I take with a pinch of salt unfortunately. You are a magical musician….but let's not forget 'the darkness' got all of our hopes up, with the first 2 realises! Sorry can't remember the titles, and that's due to my memory and not a dig. For me personally…I lost interest in you guys, when you jumped on the Christmas song pension wagon! It gets played every year of course….
And it's OK but not the best! Darkness being Darkness again would be great, fun and toe tapping imo! Get in that studio boys!x

I love Maroon 5. Jordi was awful sure, but they make great music. Adam is a great singer, and James Valentine their guitarist is a brilliant guitarist.

I too have a dislike for that song. I've barely heard it proper yet it seeps into my brain every time I hear the phrase 'moves like jagger' ugh, there it is again… for the rest of the day………..aaaaaaaa

I personally don't think he was playing it, I think he's probably aware of large parts of it but wasn't deemed safe to play live. So yeah when he's over the pentatonic shapes and a bit of vibrato it looks right. But then seconds later he moves his fretting hand in a long slide – we don't hear that slide. We also hear notes when he isn't playing them. It's nice for his fans to drool over and Howard believed it but I think it's nothing more than a well rehearsed act.

Certainly in the follow up where he was interviewed by Howard, he played a bit of guitar, there's no way that player played this live. Fun performance but I prefer Prince.

Sorry stopped the video when the sqeaking started. This is blasphemy he shouldn't be doing this. Just stroking his VERY BIG EGO. Narcissist pur sang. Can't stand his face his eyes are to close to each other. He has a very untrustworthy face to me. He's a cheater, right?

I’m new to your channel Justin and i have to say, you are one of the nicest guys I’ve ever heard in any walk of life, let alone the murky world of music! I share a lot of your opinions but unfortunately I don’t convey them anywhere close to your level of balance and fairness..great channel and i can’t wait to catch up with it all

Justin, won't you do a review of Alicia Keys feat John Mayer and Quest live – If I ain't got you/Gravity? In my opinion, it's one of the great performances in the last 10-15 years.

If there’s anyone to blame for Moves Like Jaguar, it’s Dr.Luke who is I guess ghost producing probably. From 2009 to a rapist… he wrote almost every electronic pop song on the charts for artists.

I spy a Two Rock amp or amps…wonder if he really wanted that amp. It was just like give me the most expensive thing you got. I imagine he ask John Mayer and he was like here’s all the stuff.

In answer to the title of the vid, no.

    He doesn't sing, he whines.

He has openly looked down his nose at rock and metal as passe for a while now, occasional back tracking when it suits him.

I lump him in with numerous other showbiz douchebags and can't be bothered with him.

In my opinion, one should have multiple guitars… at least one for each tuning. In addition to standard and E flat, I use open G, E, DADGAD, the Rain Song tuning ( EADADE) . So, at least 6.

Justin. If you can take music which you yourself don't like, but figure out why other people like it – you've won the game. Moves like jagger has made a lot of people on this planet feel good. Its just energy. Peace and love bro

According to his interview on “Howard Stern” he wasn’t planning to play the solo at Stern’s birthday bash. He realized he had to play it and was glad he learned years ago.

I’ll take his word for it, but I don’t think anything is “off-the-cuff” for this guy.

I think he did an awesome job.

The house band for Stern’s Birthday Bash was Train, fyi.
