Guns N’ Roses Doesn’t Want This to Come Out
Former Guns N’ Roses manager Alan Niven has filed a lawsuit against the band, claiming they’ve been trying to block the release of his new memoir, Sound and Fury. According to court documents, Guns N’ Roses allegedly sent threats to both Niven and his publisher in an attempt to stop the book from coming out.
Niven — who helped shape the band’s success during the Appetite for Destruction era — says the group is invoking a 34-year-old confidentiality agreement to silence him. But he’s fighting back, saying that contract no longer applies. The big question: What’s in this book that Guns N’ Roses doesn’t want the world to read?

Never saw GnR live. I wasn't gonna stand like an A-hole waiting for Axl to come on stage hours late. F him

The First Amendment should guarantee that Niven can write what he wants as long as it’s true. Axl is like Trump, he wants to make telling the truth illegal.

Slash mentioned in his book when Niven got fired it was one if the things that lead to their downfall. You’ll notice after he got canned the band went downhill fast

Hmm, by ‘91, didn’t Axl already have sole rights to the band name? I’m not sure it matters which members didn’t sign, if Axl was G’n’R (*from a legal, contractual standpoint)

Axl and the other OG members have moved on with their lives. A book like this will dig up old wounds and cause confusion and disagreements.

NO! Just the one authorized representative is required to sign any agreement or contract!

I'll bet that "one member" is Steven Adler. Alan always said it was a mistake to kick him out and not work with his addictions, considering how much WORSE many other of the members issues were. Without taking anything away from the monster that Matt Sorum was and still is, Adler's swinging drumming was key to the GnR sound. Niven was right warning them that losing Adler and catering to Axl's whims would bring the band down. Izzy believed him and left. Without Niven GnR would not have gotten to where they did, and without him after, they imploded creatively. CD is a great Axl solo album, and a shitty GnR album.

The member was Slash. Slash encouraged him to write the book. I'm sure everyone has some skeletons in their closet but it is in deed Axl Rose who "REALLY" doesn't want that book coming out.

The band wouldn't have half their popularity they have today without Niven. He got Axl off so many things, gave him sing titles, was Izzy's translator when Axl wouldn't talk to him, Steven Adler, Niven and Izzy went as the 3 Musketeers for Halloween Havoc 91' in LA. Traci Guns once called Nevin the most influential your manager in the 80s

Personally I think it’s a marketing gimmick. Up until just now I haven’t heard of this book or anything remotely associated with it. I have a strong feeling that the author in this case (Niven) was most likely overpaid and possibly even given a sizable advance when the book publisher realized the book doesn’t have the interest in it as they were expecting. Instead of taking the hit they came up with this particular scheme hoping it would generate enough interest in it to at least break even. Anything above that is icing on the cake as the saying goes.

Pretty sure Traci Gunns was still in the band when Alan was brought in? Can anyone confirm that? Any mention of "the original Guns N Roses band" actually predates Slash and Adler. Gunns actually wrote a good portion of the first album, but he, too, was forced out and made to sign a confidentiality contract. Hm…this makes me REALLY want to read this book 🙂 There is a pattern emerging here, that will make one particular GNR member look Quite Bad…

I’m not hating and I don’t want y’all to come after me but yes, auto tune and tracking is absolutely a style of playing and I love a lot of bands that use some tracks, but when it’s this heavy in a live setting, it’s not even playing live at that point it’s standing on stage with a guitar

If the book gets past Axl’s roadblocks, Axl has given it great publicity and people will want to read it and see what Axl doesn’t want you to read. Axl is all gaslighting, petty threats and manipulation and no common sense. Smart celebrities don’t comment on bad press and before know it, the public quickly forgets about it.
