I just came across your recent video about the bands you hate, and I was stunned to see ELP as the first you discussed. You said you don't hate them; you just don't like them. I'll admit, I stopped watching when I heard that your reason is that they are not emotional or cold or some such thing. I have watched your videos before, and ELP's spot on the bands-you-hate list made me wonder if some brain injury had befallen you. ELP makes me feel just about every human emotion so intensely. Lake is my favorite male vocalist, and ELP is my favorite band. I know they're not for everyone, but here you speak of Lake in glowing terms. Maybe I need to go back and listen to the rest of your explanation to make sense of it.

The Esoteric releases of Greg's solo albums pretty much stank. They didn't remaster them, no matter how much they claim they did. The quality of the "Manoeuvers" album was dreadful, and "Greg Lake" was no great shakes either. I hope the recordings on this box set are actually reworked.

Esoteric has gone tragically downhill since those excellent Anthony Phillips reissues! Among a list of other incompetent moves, they screwed up Al Stewart's "24 Carrots" so badly that it's unlistenable.

I hadn't heard Lake's 2nd album "Manoeuvres" before so I looked it up on You Tube. I found that 3 of the songs have been mislabeled which were uploaded by Manicore. 'Someone' is a title from his 1st album, the song is actually 'Slave to Love'. 'Slave to Love' is actually the song 'Haunted' and 'Haunted' is really 'I Don't Know Why I Still Love You'. Sloppy work.

I love ELP, especially Greg Lake. I bought this set and it's really nice. I want to get Keith Emerson's box set as well. I know Greg was working on an album when he passed (or at least I thought read that somewhere), so too bad some of those songs couldn't be included.

Looking at the very good video you present here Barry I do feel they maybe should have released this on vinyl with would have given us vinyl nuts some choice , oh well !

Probably one of the greatest singers from the 20th Century, been a fan since 1977 but didn’t know their stuff ( ELPs) was even better before this. Saw them 3 times and Greg solo 4 times including him as a speck at the Reading Festival In 1981 with the late great Gary Moore.
I do think his solo career is a little underwhelming tbh, some great tracks on both albums but some mediocre stuff too.
All his ELP solo stuff up to 75 was brilliant in fact !

Wonderful Review! Thanks for sharing! I ordered this set early from Burning Shed, and received the frameable print, as well. Very cool! Santa will be bringing it for Christmas! ❤

The first set of personal photos are from the Love Beach era of ELP. These are so hard to get, which is a shame given that the guys were all looking tanned and healthy.

Thank you, for previewing this set for us. Greg Lake is one of the great EK.European bassist vocalists… John Wetton, Jack Bruce, Sting, John Entwhistle, Chris Squire, some guy named McCartney… and probably others… I do love Greg Lake's voice – the first King Crimson LP, and all of Greg's work of course with ELP… Peace out, from this side of the pond….

Nice overview. Greg obviously was capable of being a solo artist, but he really shone in a band setting (stating the obvious). He really wasn't as prolific as one would expect (especially after the Love Beach fiasco), and his solo albums – he admitted – were a mistake as they weren't very focused stylistically and he lamented he should have pursued a more progressive approach (whether the record company would have agreed is a different story).

Saw ELP open up one year for Jethro Tull in the 90's I think….I couldn't believe it. ELP was awesome (so was Tull too!). Also saw Emerson, Lake, and Powell….another awesome show. A great live CD is a King Biscuit one featuring Lake with Gary Moore! …awesome show.

The promo for this is stella, never heard of this release anywhere, except from this video. Thanks Barry, released around the anniversary of his passing, is it just a money grab by the estate of Greg Lake you decide.

Great Boxset and of course 'I believe in Father Christmas' is most definitely a part of the Christmas canon of songs played without fail every Christmas. I see you are at 49.8 subscribers Barry, Let's hope you get to 50K for Christmas.

Got mine recently from the Artist Shop. Only thing I don't like about it is the size of the package. Not sure why they didn't go with the usual 12' x 12' size. I like the GL Anthology set much better as I have both the double Vinyl and the double CD.

I really appreciate the family pictures.
