Grateful Dead – How Awesome is This NEW Box Set?

Us Americans get our dates the wrong way around? If it wasn’t for “US” Americans, oh let’s see around 1945 or so . . . you Brits would have been learning a new language called German.

Thanks for the review and video. The Dead and Rhino do an excellent job with these reissues. As I fan I’m so glad the band taped their concerts so they could be enjoyed years later. Long live the Dead. Be well and rock on.

I've had this show in HQ format for decades. Why didn't you comment more on the performance itself, instead of just the packaging?
It's a fine show, but with many mediocre and/or sloppy moments. I suppose one can say that about most of their shows, LOL. But the Shakedown is indeed stellar, and easily within any collector's top 5.

To reiterate your question: How awesome is it? I would have expected you to actually listen to this before posting the video so that you could tell us what the music is like and not just show us what the box set looks like. The 1980s is a time when Dead concerts could be very hit or miss, and it would have been helpful to hear about the music, not just about the packaging.

I don't do vinyl, but that is a very pretty box set.

I have a few Dead studio albums but most of my Dead albums are Dick's Picks.

I have the 3cd version and the 20 CD box set is en route from the states, should take them ahead of Clapton in the record collection, although John Mayall could be a spoiler.

Will there be a CD edition of this box set?

the "hippie movement" began in LA, laurel canyon, and was meant to fracture society so as to ensure there was no unity amongst the citizenry of the republic and thus, no opposition to ZOG.

The Grateful Dead always have beautiful packaging for their Rhino releases.

Reason to be grateful!

As a big deadhead, I would not recommend 1984 though 1986 for new listeners. Garcia was struggling with addiction and health issues and his singing is very rough. The drumming was sloppy and rushed, Weir sang off key and flat. I will say that Garcias guitar tone and overall playing is some of my favorite in their 30 years live.
