Good Will Hunting makes me so sad. Not because of the movie but because this movie was from a bygone era where originality was king. Where we got hit movies that didn’t need to be Marvel movies or big budget. The story was enough. Now unless it’s got epic battles and “ representation” it’s not gonna be a big movie

Grew up in Southie. Saw this at the movie theatre and happily recognized most of the locations. Southie is all yuppified now, with million dollar condos, so the place has changed so much.

it always blew me away how Matt and Ben were able to pull off the leads in this movie. Matt's role was perfectly executed, whereas IMO anyone could have filled in for Ben's role. And in fact the only scene that Ben pulls off as seemingly not planned but it clearly was, was when the Harvard guy was scholastically dressing him down and Ben does the Monkey head scratch. Not sure if that was an Easter Egg no one picked up on or an inside joke between he and Matt. The whole Southy thing nearly happened to me. I recall in 2021 being in Bostin for the first time for PAX, and in a traffic situation the guy behind me honking like crazy at me…well it really pushed my buttons, and I rolled down the window and yelled "you wanna go?!?" I had a car full of game developers scared shitless, and one buddy ready to throw down with me on the spot. Fortunately the other guy backed down because he was alone, but I imagine I could have gotten my clock cleaned that day under different circumstances.

This is another one of my top 10 movies that I will stop everything to watch if on…..and for the record, it's the "not your fault scene" gets me every time.

I was working at Emerson College in Boston at the time and had to walk through the Public Garden to get to our buildings on Beacon. One day I had to walk around because "some guy from Cambridge was making a movie with Robin Williams."
