God, This Metallica Song Is AWESOME!!

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | October 28, 2025

I’m in new surroundings on a writing trip with The Darkness in Scotland so please, forgive the strange ah hoc setting. However, great news, Metallica have surprised everyone by releasing a brand new song only yesterday! Its called “Lux Aeterna”. They have bestowed some much needed thrash upon our willing ears this week. What do you think of it? Are you happy, disappointed, excited, annoyed…talk to me.

You know even though this is their first album in 6 years that more than 6 years past since the black album and they had many albums. It wouldn’t sound like sad but true. Metallica covering Motörhead is the perfect analysis of this song!!

No thanks. Too fast, it blurs. Sounds like noise to me. I heard once that music is a combination of sound and silence. Seems true to me. Sad but True is a fantastic song.

Cool, I have the same headphones as you, as well as the same issues managing the cord. And its cool to see THE Justin Hawkins doing the same head bobbing and whipping that I have always done to "Black Shuck".

Nice to see Metallica get back to something close to their roots, albeit with some subtle changes. I also caught the AC/DC and Motorhead elements. Does indeed sound a bit punky, but thats no bad thing IMO.

I wanted to love it, and am so glad I didn't have to try !!! I saw them w/ Cliff open for Ozzy when I was 16… NOW when are you going to talk about RAMMSTEIN ??? Especially since they are retiring and their last two "final" albums ? I'm so happy you are still amazing and funny and a serious musician as well. And our pibble Murphy is in love with Jussy's Girl. XOXO – Cat

I've been a huge fan of Metallica for many, many years. This is pretty poor. The guitars aren't good, far too boring, and the song doesn't develop as a tune. The drums…sound like Nu Metal dross. It's pretty accurate to say "Metallica doing Motorhead" but nowhere near as authentic sounding.
Whatever you like is your decision but I find this song bland. The vocals though….they are always rocking! Hetfield is a vocal rock god.

The solo is getting so much hate from guitarists who want some kind of show off fest. Seems like an homage to Motörhead. Which makes a pentatonic solo perfect.

This is more NWOBHM revival than contemporary Thrash Metal which is ironic because there isn't a band that has had a bigger impact on contemporary Thrash than Metallica.

They have earned the right to play whatever the hell they want that's for sure. It's just too bad that it doesn't do anything for me. Hetfield is solely responsible for me buying my first guitar, pedal and amp. They were heavy and fast and full of angst in the late 80's and early 90's. Lux unfortunately would not have the same effect.
