Global Economist WARNS: “It’s Too Late To Stop This”
Economist Steve Keen, who correctly warned of the 2008 financial crash, delivers a stark message: when it comes to climate breakdown, it is already too late to stop it, and the only advice he has left is to brace for impact.
Keen argues that we are, in his words, five inches from a brick wall and not slowing down in time. He believes the beginnings of a breakdown in our capacity to maintain civilization could arrive within the next 10 years, and he worries he may even be putting that timeline too far into the future. He traces the failure back 50 years, to a moment when engineers at MIT laid out exactly what was coming, and politicians who listened to media and oil interests trivialized the danger instead.
He gets specific about what breakdown could look like. He points to the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, the AMOC, the ocean current system that regulates Europe’s climate. Recent estimates suggest it could stop functioning sometime between now and 2095. If it does, Keen says the temperature across Europe could fall by roughly three degrees per decade for three decades, a 10-degree average drop, with extremes in London ranging from minus 20 to plus 35. He questions whether a country that grinds to a halt over leaves on the train tracks is remotely prepared for that scale of disruption.
Steven pushes the conversation toward solutions and grounds it in what is actually possible. A world government is not going to happen. The level of global coordination required is not realistic. So rather than despair, the argument lands on the one thing that can be done: redirect the money currently spent trying to mitigate the problem into creating forms of energy that produce no emissions, fuel prosperity, and drive innovation, instead of assuming we are all doomed and nothing can be done.
Discover:
• Why an economist who predicted 2008 says it is already too late to stop climate breakdown
• What “brace for impact” actually means for the next 10 years
• The AMOC collapse that could drop Europe’s temperature by 10 degrees
• Why London could swing between minus 20 and plus 35 degrees
• How engineers warned us 50 years ago and were ignored
• Why world government and global coordination are not realistic solutions
• The one realistic response: emission-free energy that also fuels prosperity
• How disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could trigger a global food shock

Please please please show this back to that dude in the purple shirt in the coming years where his predictions DIDN'T HAPPEN . . . just like the ones he made 9-10 years ago about the climate. Also, can you start a fund raiser to get him to move to China — it seems like he believes that lifestyle (under communism) is the one for him. CEO, why didn't you ask him — if all this 'climate change' that man has caused over the last couple hundred years, ask him what happened in the last two ICE AGES . . . was that also humans causing it? Additionally, you should never let him off the hook — press him, 'specifically' what has to occur for life not to end in the the next 100 years — ASSUMING the models continue to show an increase — there are several predicting a cooling.

Chinese communism model won’t work because ask their neighboring countries like India and other Asian countries how aggressive they are in terms of not respecting boundaries. A growth oriented country would never try to dictate others but try to sway them through incentives and unfortunately China has not been a good leading example. I prefer European socialism better than Chinese socialism or communism.

Everyone assumes Trump is going to settle the Iranian war on marginal terms. History would suggest otherwise. He is going to win it outright, regardless of the degree to which he has to engage offensively. If that means escalating to the point where he has to destroy the entire infostructure of Iran, he will do exactly that. If it means using a tactical nuclear weapon to end this definitively, he will. He's not leaving Iran until he is totally convinced they cannot develop a nuclear weapon of mass destruction within his lifetime, at a minimum. Assuming he cares more about midterm elections, the price of oil, or who can or cannot transit a particular waterway is wishful thinking. It's what you would expect from a career politician. He is not that. Buckle up, because what comes next will end in a total Iranian surrender. It's just a matter of what price they choose to endure before it happens.

Steve Keen may know economics but should stay in his lane, his climate science knowledge is out of date and seriously questionable he makes himself look like a donkey every time he talks climate. The science he quotes is seriously being questioned and his main stream narrative is curated which is becoming more evident every month despite efforts to gag the discussion.

What about the "free energy" that Tesla talked about and renewables, or maybe thorium? We need to stop focusing on profits and start focusing on life… We also all need to develop our intuition/telepathy so we can't be lied to…

Just a casual observation here from the peanut gallery. Every video I’ve watched on this channel is replete with gloom and doom. This guy is a loon. If civilization ends it won’t be because of climate change. We’re going to top out around 9 billion people in the next 20-40 years, meanwhile, energy production is going more and more to natural gas, renewables, nuclear. The United States has reduced its carbon emissions over the last couple of decades even wireless population has grown, and the rest of the world will follow suit. Population will start to decline later this century. Instead of procreating, people are more and more addicted to their electronics

climate is changing which it has done for millions of years. Do we really have the arrogance to believe we can change it with taxes or something? Our government can't even run basic things without putting us 40 trillion in debt. what impact can we really make? It's becoming a political talking point not an actual problem solution.

Make that four, because I agree with Steve.
Diary of a CEO — what are you anxious about? I can see you gripping the side of that chair. And old mate who keeps rubbing his face — what are you frustrated about? Are you struggling to accept that two things can be true at the same time?
Also, you lot forgot one big factor: on top of everything we're already dealing with, we have the Sun's solar cycle and the broader question of where we sit within the galactic plane and how chaotic those larger systems can be.
People, read some f***ing books.

This guys a dope… First he says climate is the biggest crisis and says all his projections arnt coming true, then he says china is doing the right things like with energy, when they’re pumping coal into the atmosphere, then he says their socialist model is the best, when they’re pumping coal nearly collapsed due to communism until they adopted capitalist principles taught to them by the US. The level of bias and ignorance of this hack is ridiculous. Is this why the UK is dying?

World government doesn't work. Corruption runs rampant and all the players are captured by corporate interests. The League of Nations was a failure and the United Nations is a failure. Even climate change is used as a tax on average people that is trickled down economically to the masses. Every single thing that any government touches is an extraction mechanism from the general public.

This chump who is saying social democratic rule will not work or will fail is because he knows that will put restrictions on America around the world and give more power to the people as opposed to let so called democracy run wild whilst the rich keep on getting richer and the disparity between the extremely rich and the poor will shrink and therefore corporations could be brought into public ownership or brought to rights or even have the public influence public opinion or foreign policy whereas at present the average Joe isn't represented at all at political level but rather the interests of elites and the powerful are pushed.
