I have a vivid memory of being confronted by my parents who'd been convinced that my AD&D books would begin to levitate around the room loosing miscllenaious succubi and demons! I simply glared and offered up the correct dice for a saving throw against Stupidity. This film maybe will feel different for anyone who suffered through the Moral Majority's rise/fall in the 1980s! Everything I loved back then (and still do today, mostly) was being targeted for burning: my action figures, my books, my comics, my beloved heavy metal… and it planted the seed of something positive: a satirical sci-fi novel, published back in March, 2001 called "The RIse and Fall of Shimmerism" which – wait for it – felt impossible to market when the 9/11 attack happened, since a key event in the novel was almost idenitcal. Even in defeat, decades later, the zealous found a way to screw with me. Watching Phil's odyssey might just be the catharsis I've been waiting for!
