I understand why Yahoo shut it down in the US in 2009 because by 2009 barely anyone in the US and Europe was using it eveyone was creating and browsing channels on YouTube instead. Basically the arrival of YouTube killed it off.

We can still get the old internet back. Delete your social media, learn HTML and start building a website! Take control of the internet back from those huge soulless corporations.

The nostalgia this fills me with, there was a sense of mystique back in the dial up days. A nascent world, innocence before self awareness. The analogy I'll use is Adam & Eve, these sites represent humanity playing naked in the garden, imperfect, chaotic, expressive before the fall. And now we just need to look at today's internet, obsessed with self-image and everything refined to the point of sterilisation 😓.

When you say that we used to share resources a lot because search engines were poor, I feel that we advanced for a bit, but now are right back to most being pretty useless.

Did you also get a YouTube warning for linking to the GeoCities Gallery? I – someone with under 20 subscribers, YouTube really should not care about – had the link in a video description last year and just now got a warning. According to Google at least, there was a recent case of malware on the website. I hope this turns out to be a false alarm. That site was really cool. Apparently, YouTube expects its users to consult a crystal ball before they link to anything. Take care.

This video really took me back, this for me, is how I remember the internet from a young age. My aunt showed me GeoCities back when I was about 10 or 11, and really interested in EVERYTHING computers. I would have made a few of these GeoCities sites, and they would have looked just as bad, if not worse, than most of the ones here. I wonder if they're archived? Not that I'd know how to find them again, or what the pages would even be about.

15 Seconds in, and there is a LHOHQ reference aka church of bob? Did you notice that lol you should Defo do a video into that website. I did a way back search myself and found it interesting. Net cult and all that.
