Genetic Engineering and Diseases – Gene Drive & Malaria
We have the choice to attack one of our oldest enemies with genetic engineering. But should we do it?

We should genetically modify organisms to prevent suffering and death and for the betterment of human kind. The supper wealthy already has access to this technology, bur somehow the rest of us are being told not to 'play God' and are being left behind.

They should just do it, the worse thing possible is it not working, so there isn’t anything that could make the situation worse than it already was

We should create a self replicating vaccine that specifically infects mosquitos but then when it bites a human its vaccinates them

Honestly I'm mostly surprised that no biologist has already done this… this can be done with someone with a decent amount of experience for only a couple thousands of dollars, and with the massive pay off, it's surprising that no one has done this yet(with or without the government/public consent)

There is another technology that has come out since, that can eliminate mosquitoes all together. It is a gene that makes female mosquitos infertile and male mosquitoes carry the gene. So, male mosquitoes with the gene are released. They mate with fertile females. All of the female offspring are then infertile and the males are like their dads. This process continues until the species has been wiped out. They have already done it, in Florida, with an invasive mosquito species. It is possible to eliminate all mosquitoes from the earth, with this tech.

I think it should be used for projects as important as mosquito borne illness. But bot on humans. But if the tech is already here, some rich persons are already using it.

malaria is litterally the wasps of viruses, it doesnt really even multiply that much. it just screws you up and hurts you and leaves you to die and then just heads out just like how wasps will sting you for no reason and just leave

We could have wiped out malaria & plenty of other diseases a long time ago like we did smallpox. Global immunization.

It's a great plan and I hope it has already been implemented, I just notices this video is 8 years old. But as we have seem before, sometimes genetic changes can have unintended (and potentially dangerous) affects. Saving lives is important – and I feel for the families who have lost children to malaria – but it's always scary when we play God, without the omnipresence and prescience required to understand all the possible consequences.
We can only pray that scientists make the best possible decision when it comes to Crispr-inspired genetic modifications, I can imagine a whole host of terrible outcomes if this technology is used in unethical ways. Sadly, too many important decisions are based on the almighty dollar rather than what's best for the majority of Earth's inhabitants. I guess that's just human nature 🙂
