France Political Crisis Latest: Macron Attempts To Salvage Government | Daybreak Europe 10/07/2025

Bloomberg Television | January 23, 2026

Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we’ll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins.

On today’s show, Emmanuel Macron has given outgoing Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu 48 hours to negotiate with France’s parties in a last-ditch effort to stem the country’s political crisis. Macron’s decision allows him to figure out next steps, which may include fresh legislative elections.

US President Donald Trump is opening the doors to negotiations with the Democrats over healthcare subsidies, which could bring an end to the government shutdown – currently in its second week.

Gold has surged to a fresh record, flirting with $4,000 an ounce, as the US government shutdown and the French political crisis injects more uncertainty into financial markets.

Egyptian state-linked media has reported the first round of Gaza talks between Hamas and Israel mediators have ended amid what has been described as a positive atmosphere.
Today marks two-years since the Hamas attack on Israel.

Today’s guests: Alexandra Ivanova, IFI Europe Fund Manager at Invesco.

The greed will crash the markets again. But they are not will be no way out of it for the oligarchs or governments this time around. Then they will have the reset they all want. They will wipe trillions of stocks and share. And they won’t be worth peanuts.

Russia, using a unilateral pretext and without raising any issues with international organizations, such as "sending an investigation team," suddenly and illegally invaded a neighboring country and has been indiscriminately attacking unarmed civilians for over three years. Aside from a small group of people who have been brainwashed by distorted ideology, most sensible people say that Russia and Putin are a vicious country and leader comparable to Nazi Germany.

France is a complex nation with many competing internal interests. Charles De Gaulle created the Fifth Republic with essentially an elected monarch . His successors have failed to demonstrate his great leadership, skill at looking ahead at the needs of France, and understanding of the people of France. They have too often been captured by party politics. Perhaps it is time to return to the second Republic. Choose a head of state who is above party politics and might restablish brilliant leadership of DeGaulles and the greatness of France.
