Footloose Dinner & A Movie

Our Gen X Life | April 5, 2026

We’re kicking off our Sunday shoes and kicking off a new series, 80s Dinner and a Movie Night! We invited our friends to join us for a themed dinner and classic 80s movie. After watching the movie, we engaged in a lively group discussion which you can listen to on our podcast (linked below and at the end of this video.) Footloose is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, so we figured that would be a great movie to “kick off” the series! We hope these videos will inspire you to host your own 80s movie night. All of the recipes featured in this video can be found on our website (linked below.) Enjoy!

I performed in a footloose play in school. And my dance teacher made me fall in love with with this movie ever since😂❤️she put us on to sooo much 80s movies. The acting 🎭 was so great back then like they sincerely had a knack for theatre 💗😅✨

I love the 80 styled room you guys did the podcast in, is that your basement? & if so, who designed it, it's " totally awesome" lol & I haven't watched footloose since i was a kid in the 80's, but was too young to know what was going on, I'm gonna have to revisit the film, but i'm more knowledgeable of the soundtrack, which I love by the way, but great vid, & I'm loving the new editing style & graphics😊

Love the Dinner & 80's Movie Idea, and the food too. When I saw those Kevin Bacon Burgers it made me want to reach in there and grab on myself!!! But the Tatar Tots would be a little too spicy for me though, LOL. But I'd try them. That kinda reminds me of the Dinner & Movie Theme that TNT or TBS had back in the late 90's!!!

As an 80's kid I have never watched Footloose yet. 1984 was an amazing year for movies, Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Indiana Jones, Police Academy just to name a few.

Abby & Keith, I just love you guys so much! ❤ What a fun idea! The burgers look amazing 🤤. I saw the movie in a theatre in Kaufman, Texas, when I was 14. A country town a lot like in the movie. I only lived there a year but hated it because I am a city girl. I'm going to have to rewatch the movie with Randy. 😊

This is indeed a fascinating conversation, because I have a confession:
Back in the 80’s,I ABSOLUTELY HATED this genre of movies!!!
The “Dance Your Way to Victory,Overcome All obstacles through DANCE!
    You can doooo it!”
    Oh I watched them,yeah.
    Footloose.
    Flash dance.
    Fame.
    Breakin’.
    Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.
    All of them.
Ohhh how they annoyed me at that time!
    Why?
Because as a young person back then,I found it to somehow be insulting and patronizing to showcase dance as the solution!
Obviously I was taking everything too seriously, but it bugged me.
But NOW,they fall into a new type of context, that era was style over substance,a mere lip service to any type of social or personal dilemma.
The solution was to just DANCE 🤣🤣
It’s a bit of fun, watching these old movies of Hollywood trying to guide teens with such a hilariously simplistic solution to life!

x Awesome set-up, that food looks so great!
    x Really cool mixologist section!
x At B.A.D. (Burwell Against Durgs) dances in my hometown, the song "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins would be played at basically every one the last two years I was in high school.
x I would watch the rest of the podcast…but I haven't seen the film yet and have wanted to watch it for a long time.
