First look at the Bug Creek Pack pups!
First look at the Bug Creek Pack pups! Swapped SD cards for a camera last Friday and captured this sequence from a few weeks ago of the pups traveling with their aging mother (the whitish, thin wolf) and a 4.5 year old female (first wolf in video), who is technically the pups’ sister.
The Bug Creek Pack has consistently reared 2-3 pups to adulthood for many years, which is better than most packs. And it appears that they are well on their way to doing so again this year.
However, the pups are not in the clear yet as they still have to survive until winter. If they can reach winter, though, their odds of reaching adulthood are pretty good!

The mother is absolutely gorgeous! Contrary to popular myths, it seems the wolf packs in Minnesota tend to stay together and grow with multiple litters more often than they split up. Maybe having multiple age groups working together contributes to the babies surviving more frequently in this pack in particular.

Wonderful video. You've taught me a lot about wolves, like the surprising fact that summer is the most lethal time for pups, and that winter is the goal to reach. Nature is amazing!
