EXTINKED: Smilodon I ep 2

Lindsay Nikole | August 25, 2025

Hello! Welcome to the first episode of EXTINKED, where I get 5 of my favorite extinct animals tattooed on me by one of my favorite tattoo artists, Angel Rose. Today we’re doing Smilodon: the iconic “saber tooth tiger” from the ice age. Enjoy!

A huge thanks to Gian for the fantastic editing!

CORRECTION: Thylacosmilus was South American, not Australian. I apologize to the inhabitants of both continents as well as everyone else all over the world!

The part about the height is so relatable. Humans technically are different heights at different times but when measured I would be between 5’2 1/4 to 5’3 BUT my drivers license says 5’3 so I don’t care about physically how tall I am, legally I am 5’3 and I hold onto that

I've had three male cats over the course of my life
    three female cats
and three female dogs with one male dog briefly
Also as an Australian our sabered animal is the thylacoleo which was actually a marsupial that carried live young in a backwards facing pouch

Aaaay!!! I live were Lund found most of his discoveries. It’s called Lagoa Santa or Saint Lake in free translation. It’s a beautiful city and he was buried here too. Our coolest thing on town is a giant sloth in one of the main city squares. Iconic

Odd question of the day. I am an old man and I have been all over this country hiking, camping, and hunting for many years. I've only had a few encounters with apex predators; bear, mountain lions, and once a wolverine. If I were in a time machine and went back to this era of the smilodon, how likely would have an encounter been with one of these cats or a dire wolf? Love your presentations.

You will never be just a piece of Spexy blank skin to me. Even if you have no tattoos, your skin is still a work of art and sexy.
Oh c'mon…I watched all the way to the end and got no forehead… now I'm bummed.
Hey I thought that you said you were 5'6" in a previous video somewhere?
    Did I imagine that?
    …or was it just a dream?…
Now I will be curious. …

Your knee tattoo doesn't go over your knee cap, and that's arguably the worst part to get done. That combined with the style of tattoo you got (black only with a lot of skin showing through vs. something more solidly packed) would make your tattoo not hurt to the same level as it could have.

Signed someone with two leg sleeves, one in solid full cover and one in black work.

Skyrim destroyed the name Sabertooth Tiger for me. They are Sabercats now. The name is more accurate since they're not tigers but still acknowledges the saber teeth and that its still a cat.

Also, it would be hilarious if you got the whole SACABAMBASPIS skeleton that we know of from fossils as a tattoo but that's probably not what's coming next.

Saying it didnt hurt much while comparing it to a video of a man (also getting it on the back of the knee not the front) made me laugh. 😂 (ik its not always the case but often times women are chiller with tattoos then men)

When you were talking about pain tolerances, I noticed that your knee was hyperextended. People with hypermobility often have a higher pain tolerance than most people, especially if the cause is hypermobile ehlers danlos!

Bro…. I'm not so sure I'd be talking while the artist is working. I mean maybe she's that good, and used to that, but it's risky to engage that side of her brain while she's doing her art.

I've just started getting into microfossils because I do microscopy art and am trying to get access to some fossil fields in the Ukraine (Spring of next year). Thanks for passing along your knowledge. It's also more aesthetically pleasing having you present a subject than some stuff professor guy. Thanks for teaching.
