Exposing Cartels: Inside Colombia’s Most Dangerous City for Journalists

Real Stories | August 17, 2026

In Colombia, journalism can mean far more than reporting the news. In some of the country’s most dangerous regions, exposing corruption, drug trafficking and organized crime can make a reporter a target.

This documentary follows journalists working in and around Buenaventura a city where rival gangs, drug routes, extortion and violence have transformed everyday life. Local reporter Henry Ramirez has exposed some of the city’s darkest secrets, including clandestine sites where victims were allegedly murdered and dismembered.

His reporting brought international attention—and death threats.

But Henry’s story raises a difficult question: *What should a journalist do when telling the whole story could put an entire community at risk?

We also meet investigative journalists who have exposed powerful politicians and criminal networks, some of whom now live under constant protection, behind closed curtains, or far from their families.

Through their experiences, the film explores the real cost of press freedom: fear, isolation, threats, trauma—and the extraordinary courage required to keep reporting when the institutions meant to protect people have failed.

This is a story about journalism, power, violence and the people who refuse to remain silent.

When the truth can get you killed, how far would you go to report it?*

Nothing happens without the participation of the government. It's simple…but all this trash is fabricated and blamed on everyone else 😂😂. As far as I'm concerned….you don't raise arms and get rid of the blood-suckers so why talk about it? Just to get more people unalived??? 🤦🏻🤦🏻

It's such a shame these people are fighting and killing each other for the entertainment of the elite ruling class, google colombian richest people and they all look nothing like the locals in this video.

I don't know how a country with such poverty and wealth divide could ever pull out of this with crime being organized into local government with such brazen violence.

WARmerica is the worst cartel. The WARmerican terrorist regime (born in 1947) is much worse than WWII Germany and that was BEFORE biden / trump’s gen@cide sponsorship, unaliving women and children DAILY just like WWII Germany. 2018 study: “After World War II, the U.S. Regime Has Killed 25-30 Million People” (mostly civilians). Prof. John Mearshiemer says the number is 38 million. WARmerica supports Ukronazis, zionazis, and have now put Al Qaeda leadership in control of Syria to steal it for… the illegal lend theft zionazi project. Stealing land from many countries just like WWII Germany.

Truth is Treason in an Empire of Lies! Amazing Vid. Great work. My recommendation is to watch in original language with the English subtitles. Investigative journalists are needed more now than ever and these Colombian journalists are incredibly courageous🫶 The saddest part is we inflict this misery on each other, relentlessly, all over the world and it’s always the poorest that suffer the most. Humans hey… and we call ourselves intelligent?! Best joke ever told.

If you believe the Netherlands is free for journalists you are very ignorant.

Criticism of religion is met with violence. Yes its less dangerous here, but far from peaceful.
