Those who fall for this corporate gambit are AIDING and ABETTING this. The day I pay someone a tip to HAND me what I paid for instead of ACTUAL top service at a restaurant is the day hell freezes over. Don't be a part of the problem. Now, if you liked this public service which you didn't even ask for, I'd appreciate you "buying me a coffee" for about the same amount as that OVER PRICED cup of coffee that started this conversation. *THANK YOU*

i’m so happy that this kind of tipping is not a thing in my country. no one demands it and people only tip waiters once in a blue moon if the service was exceptional

I see it as a dark pattern. And as all dark patterns, it pushes me away from that business.

I was about to buy something at an online store for a great price, when I realized the site has session replay. Closed tab.

The tip trend is just another way businesses get away with not paying their employees. I’m not someone who believes every job should provide a “living wage,” but this really is one of the scummiest corporate tricks I’ve ever witnessed. Pay your fucking employees instead of guilt tripping your customers into doing it for you, you sheisters.

People gotta understand that these businesses are not actually requesting a tip.
What has happened is that most businesses have moved away from old traditional POS systems that usually included the big clunky cash registers.
Now, most businesses are using the more sleek and mainstream handheld credit/debit card terminals.
These terminals are a "one size fits all" solution to ALL POS systems.
So they have the tip question automatically included because half of their clients are restaurants or service based businesses.
Since non-service based businesses are using the exact same terminals as the service based businesses, the tip question automatically pops up.
That doesn't mean that the business is actually asking for a tip.
That's just the default protocol for the terminal.

I’ve heard and subscribe to the idea that if you’re standing up, no tip. Also, why has the percentage expectation gone up? The beauty of percentages is that they scale automatically, so why is 25% being pushed so brazenly?

The 'tip machine' looks like a 'label maker'…as in the same model of 'label maker' that I have. BTW…nice sketch….and yes, tipping is out of control! 😂🤣😅

NOW I understand why they were delaying my order at the Mexican pharmacy after I had my teeth pulled. And I just kept staring at that Tip Jar … because I had just had my teeth pulled. I have to get out more.
