Every SLIPKNOT Album SUCKS (Compared To These)

Metal Trenches | September 25, 2026

Slipknot’s entire discography goes head-to-head with BETTER nu metal albums released in the same year. Starting with The End, So Far and working all the way back to the legendary 1999 debut, we’re revisiting every Slipknot album and asking the controversial question: was there something better that year? @slipknot #slipknot #numetal

Really you don’t like vol 3? Honestly it’s a really fun album to listen to front to back.

I also like .5 as well, but that’s also the album that got me into heavier Metal in the first place. So may just be my rose tinted nostalgia glasses.

Iowa is still the best album tho

Yeah hard agree issues is fucking insane. Better than self titled fs

Nah man, latter slipknot is trash as hell, but both vol III and all hope is gone are good records. And no way disturbed is nowhere near Slipknot in quality, disturbed is as generic and soulless as it can get

I became a major fan in 99 with that self title album, (the only record i bought from them, btw). When Iowa came out, i like it too, but all the elements that I loved from their first record, were basically gone. I was already listening to "extreme metal" way before slipknot, so seeing them riding the wave of (pseudo) satanic imaginary and becoming more "traditional" with their sound, was a big turn off and I was already moving towards other bands.
When I heard vol 3….geez…I knew i did right thing moving on from this band. Having said that i still listened to all the albuns after just out of curiosity but nanh….weak songwritting af for the majority, lots of fillers, lack of great musicianship moments, obnoxious boring taylor sing a long chorus, etc.
To end this, I know this should be about the music only but its stronger than me….. All the drama involving ex members, the shaddy behaviors and statements from the bands owners several times tru the years, corey and clown big ego and acting like they are metal royalty, the lack of respect towards the fans….what can i say? I still love their first record but its been fun watching this cringe circus band burn to the ground.

I haven't listened to a full Slipknot album since I wasted a tank of gas and $20 in high school on Vol. 3. Fuck, that album blows. Coreys' lack of self-awareness and inability to grow up make this band suck as an adult.

Can you please tell me the name of the album on your left with woman with the hole in her face? I heard it at one point and I forgot the name of the album but I remember really liking it

I love all of their albums mentioned, no matter how tacky or teen-angsty they become – but it's totally understandable why others don't. Thanks for showing (or reminding us of) certain amazing records of various energetic bands!

Donating for the Around the Fur representation, but also wanted to shout out how stacked 2001 was. ill Niño – Revolution/Revolucíon and Sevendust – Animosity just to name a couple!

The last Slipknot album I even liked was We Are Not Your Kind. 2019 was a good year for metal with KoRn's The Nothing and of course Tool's Fear Inoculum. I couldn't stand FI at release because my expectations were just too high but now it's my second favorite album of theirs. The Nothing is the best Korn since Life is Peachy, Requiem was okay, just too short. We Are Not Your Kind felt reenergized and truly passionate, I spun Liar's Funeral, Birth of the Cruel and Solway Firth a ridiculous amount of times. Corey's lyrics were weaning off the pseudo intellectual word salad of The Gray Chapter but it was broght back in full force for The End So Far and other than Warranty and Acidic I don't revisit that album. I finally saw them live on the 25th debut tour however.

I'm sorry, but Disturbed at their best is worse than Slipknot at their worst.

You are right that it would start a war in the comments, Disturbed are awful at making art.

Also yes, Toxicity is better than Iowa

(2004) Reise Reise by Rammstein, Jesu by Jesu, Mabool: The Story of the Three Sons of Seven by Orphaned Land, Salvation by Cult of Luna, Pursuit of the Sun & Allure of the Earth by Woods of Ypres,

(2008) – Uroboros by Dir En Grey, Eternal Kingdom by Cult of Luna, Bliss of Solitude by Isole, Cherno by KYPCK,

(2019) – Rammstein by Rammstein, Hearts of No Light by Schammasch, F & M by Lindemann, Dystopia by Isole, Hallucinogen by Blut aus Nord,

(2022) – Disharmonium – Undreamable Abysses by Blut aus Nord, Plague God by Absent In Body, Zeit by Rammstein, Immutable by Meshuggah, We're Not Here to Be Love by Fleshwater, I'm Fine by Wine From Tears, No Good At Goodbyes by Gridiron.

By the way, what would you consider to be the "big 4" of nu metal? In my book it's Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit and Slipknot. I honestly never considered SOAD nu metal exactly, and Linkin Park feels bit too soft for the genre.

Vol: 3 The Subliminal Verses was the album that got me into Slipknot many years ago and i still love it despite the edgy lyrics but for me the Self-Titled is the best Nu-Metal album ever. It was like they took all the best elements of Nu-Metal and combined it while adding in some Death Metal as well and created a masterpiece.

The Gray Chapter was my first slipknot album so I really like it but I do get the cringe. However I think the softer songs like Goodbye, The One That Kills The Least, and If Rain is What You Want are awesome. If anybody has any bands who do a style like those 3 please lmk, I love that style.

EDIT: I also really love the 2 bonus tracks Burden and Override. I think its Coreys clean singing I love.
