Contentment stifles creativity. If you are happy why would you change things? On the other hand if you are unhappy you will look for solutions to reach happiness/contentment.

i dont understand how they can let this fool speak on their channel. this guy rejects everything that big think stands for: the ideals of the enlightenment movement, rationalism, empirism etc. this quack makes a living telling people lies about water memory, energy healing, quantum woo and other magical stuff. and before you tell me that he went wo harvard: im aware of that but there isnt an idea too crazy to find someone with a doctoral degree to support it.

Emotional intelligence is being able to see what emotions other people are displaying and how you might be able to change their emotions. It also includes being able to recognize your own emotions and manage them.

This doesn't really exist in another ream than what you might call "conventional intelligence" but is pretty much a function of it.

Genius is defined by the people, the person that maybe that genius would never consider that he may be that nor the thrill of thinking to be that, there maybe a romance of the idea. We define genius by what that person did or has done.

You have your own opinion on miserable, if you think it to be that it will be that, change the mind set, your brain will not do it all for you. You have to fix things for yourself, Talking to others stimulates you but will not drive you, find your own drive!-

Brilliant! I blame advertisement and consumptionism for people's lack of happiness. "You can only be happy if you have this" is the wrong message we're sending to our young.

I totally agree. I used to be "depressed" (using the term loosely here) back when I was working as a webdeveloper. After a burn-out the employment office told me they would NOT place me back in the IT branch so I had to pick something else. As I love to be creative and I really love history I decided I wanted to become a blacksmith.

Nowadays when I have a low moment, a moment of contempt or anger I go to my forge and hammer it out. Making quite remarkable stuff. And that makes me happy 🙂

I'd honestly rather the miserable genius life. A choice of unproductive happiness over depressive genius is an extremely selfish, athough vice versa is extremely selfless. I guess it all comes down to what kind of person you are.

while this video is provided freely, it is basically a form of commercial for the product called "Big Think Mentor", which is another youtube channel which charges money through subscription
